I finally had a chance to look up Norton in Our Portuguese Heritage for Martha's Vineyard. On page N509, Francis Perry (Pereira) Norton is said to have been born in 1828 on St. George , and brought to Edgartown by Capt. Shubael Lyman Norton who adopted him. Don't know if this helps the
