I personally find the whole thing fascinating it is believed the San People
are the most similar to the the original group of 2,000-10,000 people
estimated that all people descend from.

There are no indications that I have that DNA, but I happened to visit

What I found surprising was the detail in his description. Plenty of blonde,
blue or green eyed people my family that are 100% Azorean. However my
childhood nicknames were "princesinha Belchior" "Nossa pretinha" so you can
guess that I am not one of them.

Thanks for the article...it was quite timely for me since I've been on Gedmatch

Hi Julia,
First of, I'm not the same João Ventura mentioned by E Sharp. Just to make
it clear :)
Second, can't he at least tell you the name of the mother? And can you at
least tell us the year when the baby would have been born? The law changed

Wonder if the mother named him as the father at the time??? Or did/do they
do that in the Azores. If so, wouldn't, he as the father, be able to

Genetic variation happens in every population. At my Portuguese hall, I
see what people would think of as typical Portuguese looks with dark hair
and eyes. There are also a few blondes, and a couple of redheads (they are
100% Portuguese too!) It just is what it is.

My Grandfather, Antonio Pereira DeFaria was also from Faial and had blue eyes
and fair skin. Our family is like that too so I'm not surprised either.;)

Julia R,
It's probably going to be difficult. The records would be at the Civil

My father just informed me that he fathered a child in the Azores. He knows the

Does anyone have suggestions on where to begin looking for birth records of

Not actually surprising to me. My great-aunt told me that her father
(from Faial) was blue-eyed, fair skinned, and with strawberry blonde
hair. He was a farmer and used to get very red-skinned after working in
the California sun.
