Earthquakes are more common than people realize. The App 'Earthquake' shows earthquakes around the world starting at 2 on the scale. As for the Azores it is something that is part of life. There are many ruined houses abandoned after the 1998 earthquake and they did have loss of life and injured.

Thank you, Eric. This is the only reason I can think of for ordering a copy of baptism record 22 years after birth. I am guessing that they would need one to get a passportes and the fact that the word Vapor is noted in the copy of the baptism record. Now to figure out where they were going???
