It's very clear on Tombo.pt that Madeira is not all there. I don't have the time to sit down and compare the records that Tombo.pt is catching from the ABM (Madeira's CCA site) to the records that Family Search is doing. I'll leave that to someone who researches Madeira. Cheri On May 16, 2017

If you click on each link then scroll down a little you will see a camera. Click on that and the digital images for that time period will come up. I have no idea if all of the records for Madeira are there or not. It looks like many are. Family History Library link below:

If you want to standardize names, then it should be Velho, as Velha is the feminine application. Today, except for names which are inherently feminine, like Rosa on the Island Faial, only one version is used and it is Velho. In their time, Maria and Barbara used Velha. It is up to you how you

You have it right. It is Francisco Paxequo (Pacheco) fo. de Manoel da Graca ja defunto... I always use the modern spellings within reason. This makes it easier for your program to find a name when doing a search. Of course you can and should put the correct historical spelling in the notes
