Susanne,
Yes, they are the same but I would not use them interchangeably because the
two forms are being carried by families to date. Some families use Alvares
in full form while others use Alves. You should keep track to see where
yours will end up.

Hi Lisa,
Yes that is the section. I have found it very useful over the years. The other
section I use quite frequently starts on page 465 in my copy and lists the
churches and Freguesia they are in.
Just curious did you by the copy and where did you get it and how much. It is

Rick,
I was able to get a copy of the book you reference, Azores Islands A

Maria,
Tombo.pt is a portal put together by Joao Ventura in order to access the
CCA records faster. Tombo.pt has nothing to do with FamilySearch.org. The
Genealogy Society of Utah originally signed a contract with the Azorean
government to microfilm their records that were held in the Archives in
It has been exciting finding new things and learning how to translate the info.
Such wonderful work people have done that benefits all of us.

Thanks Cheri I just can't read this one such a pain lol. At least got the date
found her death record too that was easier to read. I had no birth or death
dates she's my GG Grandmother but thank to the wonderful index of confessional

FamilySearch is the family history division of the Church of Jesus Christ

Marie Elena,
Once you are at a FHC you can ask one of the LDS people use their password
to let you into the digitized Azorean records. I'm sure that they will let
you use them at the FHC, you just won't be able to access them at home.

Sorry Joao. Now I understand. I wasn't thinking about accessing the records
through familysearch because I mostly use Tombo.pt to see the records. I
didn't even know I could currently access the CCA records from familysearch.
Ill have to find out how to do that. Thanks for all you do.
Maria Elena,
I'm not LDS but I am a Librarian at my local FHC and I can *not* access the
digitized records! Even though the error message says that the records are
available through participating libraries. While I'm in SLC I plan on
checking on this problem as I wrote to SLC about it and never
João is correct. Some records can only be viewed from a FHC. It doesn't
matter if you have a FamilySearch account or not. If you are not accessing
them from a FHC, you won't be able to see them.
