My uncle was José Rodrigues Roque born around 1918 do not know ( my cousins
lost all his papers )
All his children have the Rodrigues Roque in their names.
Do not know because I stopped doing family tree if his grandchildren carry
it and I never asked too many children.
He is named after his
I used Sebastiao’s marriage record from Sao Roque(1622-1707 pg 115), it told me
that his parents were from Rabo de Peixe. And then looking through Rabo de
Peixe I found Sebastiao’s baptism record(1642-1689 pg160). It’s very brief and

Sorry my error I was confusing Roque with another ancestor when it comes to the
multiple marriages, but it was with his children that I began to see the Roque
being used as the last name.
Roque Rodrigues b:1789 d:1864 married October 24 1810 Rosa Jacinta b:1790 d:1866
Children:
Manuel Rodrigues
Perhaps. But I saw no evidence for the Roque name before the marriage of
1810. You should consult with Sandy, because I was just helping someone and
am not that familiar with Sao Roque.
When did Roque Rodrigues marry a second time? It must have been very late.

Yep! It seems as though after Roque Rodrigues married a second time to Rosa
they began to add "Roque" to the end of their children's names, now
generation down the line all of my family have completely dropped the
Rodrigues and just use Roque.

The Roque name comes from Roque Rodrigues cc Rosa Jacinta, in Rosto do
Cao, 24-10-1810. Presumably, Roque was named after the parish Saint.
