hello Eliseu
I was born in Nordeste and I am descentant of the Nordeste Arrudas. My
Arruda line currently only goes as far as Antonio de Arruda who was
married to a Maria de Estrela. Antonio was the son of Francisco
Cabral Arruda and Francisca Raposa. They were married on 18 Nov
1831. Both
Does anyone know if other towns in Sao Miguel will be coming online
soon? My grandfather was born in Mosteiros. thanks, Ellen

Ellen,
The CCA seems to have their own timetable on getting Parish Records online.
It may be next week that yours comes on or it may be a year from now! You
have to just keep checking the site. They seem to start with one Concelho
and a time and go alphabetically within it but who knows?
Ellen,
They've been coming online for years now. I think parish registers we see
on the CCA site has been the last 2 years. I remember hearing Joao Ventura
speak in 2007 that the records were ready to go but tied up in red tape
about the cut off year due to privacy. It seem that took a year
As Cheri said it may take awhile. However it was only two weeks ago that
the Agua do Pau records began to come online, and then a few days ago
came Cabouco. Hopefully they continue at that pace, they may have
finally been ready to upload the SM records and we will get more soon.

Do you have any information on your grandfather, i.e. his parents and
The only reason I remember some of this is because of my broken leg.
The passaporte section had some records from the port of Angra. They were
all typed up by Joao Ventura. You could search them (via modern Portuguse
spelling - i.e. my surname of Mello would be Melo). They were the older ones
Hi
I was wondering if there was a general consensus on what to do with
names with variations/different spellings (this is almost all of them!).
For example, I have a Helena in my tree and I also have an Elena. I know
these are technically the same name but the spellings have been
different.
Hi Jesse,
It would depend on what you want to do with the data base. If I were
doing a tree to show my family then I use actual names as they were
spelled at the time. If I were doing a searchable data base (which I am)
then I standardize spelling with some exceptions. A good example is the

Hi Robin
Some years back I remember asking a Bertao a question. I'm not sure if he is
the same one. My cousin Mike Cordinez was also working with a Bertao, I wish I
could remember his first name. Is he the one who wrote a book?
Yes Manoel the son of Jose da Rocha and Maria da Borba
Very interesting

Since I have De Borba within my family history, I am wondering if anyone else
is possibly related to this De Borba? I keep noticing Borba and just thought

Cheri is right about which program you use. When I do a file/data base
and standardize names I create a fact recording exactly how the name was
written in the record.

Besides the variations in the spelling, sometimes there are also mistakes. In
my program (and possibly in yours) there is also known as and there I put the
variation or mistaken name and the year found as such. You can also put it in
the notes for that person. That has helped me with
Hello Sallie,
Wish I could say we have a connection on our Borba line. Not that I
can see at this moment. My Borba's are from Sao Bartolomeu,
Terceira. I see Stanislaus County on your list and Turlock is where I
was born and still to this day have Borba family there. The only line

Hi,
I originally obtained this record from the National Archives in San
Francisco. Recently, it was scanned and put on Ancestry.com. When I
originally found this, the person at the archives that helped me locate this
document explained what the different numbers around my relatives names
meant.
Aloha google groups, I descend on my Dad's side from grt.grandfather Anastacio
