I have been using BackupPC for many years and have posted here many times
before.
Recently, I had an urgent need to replace a botched OS upgrade BackupPC
machine. Upgrading from Ubuntu 16.04LTS to 18.04LTS did not go well *for me*.
Which was my fault, long story, not here.
So, looking for a quick

Just rebuilt an Ubuntu 18.04 with the

When I try to ssh-copy-id "su - backuppc" does not work. When I "su -

I have changed email addresses and my original message (from last week) is
here.
Over two years ago I discovered that BackupPC v3 will not backup acl and

been released as beta(?), I think) and I did get an OS to run v4.0. It
I have v4.1.2 running and would like to increase the log level.
What is the range of settings allowed with "XferLogLevel"? Zero (0) through

Is there some other log setting I have overlooked?
I am trying to find log information regarding "acls" and "xattrs" file
attributes.

Thank you,
BackupPC version 4 is here: https://github.com/backuppc
And I will add that I had v4 running very nicely on CentOS 7 a year or so ago
until I had a hardware failure.
I liked it very much but, at the time, due to the simplicity of setting up
v3.3.1 and limitations of my time I replaced it with
No, I have not tried [ipaddress]/BackupPC_Admin until you suggested it.
That got me to the main webpage of BackupPC. But, now I am getting this error;

Thanks fo getting back to me on this.
No, I did not change anything. I simply ran the script, I got what I got and
now see lots of gif files.
Let me further explain that I had Bpc4 running on CentOS over a year ago. I
searched for my notes and have not found them, yet, but, I have a vague mem

I am in the process of rebuilding a Backuppc machine (hard drive died) and

result of the rebuild I have gotten into backing up the localhost again.
I have made the adjustments to "TarClientCmd" and "TarClientRestore

You have just found out that BPC v3.3.* does not support backing up ACL and
xattr file permissions. (Sorry)
Several months ago I posted a similar question and Craig suggested that I try
BPC v4.0 as it supported ACL and xattr backup.
I did install BPC v4.0.
Sadly, it too has some problem with e
I have not been able to determine what 'rsync_bpc' is "looking at" to determine
if the client supports ACLs?
Here is the logfile entry:

David,
On your W7 clients, what is your backup method of choice? SMB or rsync or
rsyncd?
And what did you use to configure the W7 client? Cygwin? Michael Stowe?
Do you use "junction points" or do you have an extensive "exclude" list?
Or are you primarily backing up your "My Documents" only
I also posted this on the rsync mailing list . . . more soon.

As rsync is used by Backuppc and I read that rsync will backup acl permissions
with -A.
Those with some experience in backup acl's?
I am correct that I will need to add the "-A" to the "RsyncClientCmd"
instruction?

Thanks for your views.
Regarding Deltacopy, tried this years ago. Did not know that would not handle

I too would be fascinated to find a "how to" for VSS/rsync combination. I have
used Backuppc for years with linux clients. Yet, have never found
current/up-to-date how to instructions to get a Windows (any) client to backup

I have been using BackupPC for many years with Linux clients. All has always
gone well.
Recently it has become necessary to add a Windows 7 client.
I downloaded the "cygwin-rsyncd-3.0.9.0_installer.exe" from sourceforge and
installed it.
I have created a backuppc user (on the Windows box) t
