All,

I have Backuppc running on Linus and I have a Win2k Client running rsyncd.
The rsync starts fine, but it gets to a point where it doesn't write to the
log file for 2 hours, then it errors out with:

[2476] rsync: writefd_unbuffered failed to write 4092 bytes [sender]:

I have changed the Timeout parameter also. Nothing seems to be happening
during the 2 hours.

Byron, perhaps you should post your rsyncd.conf on your Window's box and pc
config.pl from BackupPC to the list. Make sure to censor your passwords if
necessary. It seems like you have a simple misconfiguration issue but it's
hard to pin point without specifics.

It may just mean you didn't supply the right password. Try a

Whatever matches your rsyncd.conf settings on the other end. If you
specify something like:
auth users = backuppc
secrets file = C:\rsyncd\rsyncd.secrets
the password would be whatever you put in the rsycnd.secrets files
in the form backuppc:my_password
I think these are case sensitive.

 or Win2k server?

The rsync daemon would run on the win2k box. Backuppc has a version
of rsync embedded, but you can test the setup with the linux
command line rsync like:
rsync target_host::
The double-colons indicate that the remote is running in standalone
daemon mode and omitting a destination makes it give a listing.
After you see the module name list you can:
rsync target_host::module/
for a directory listing. If those aren't working, you have a problem
on the windows side.

Any advice on what this error means?

[BackupPC-users] Rsyncd

2006-11-28 Thread Byron Trimble
I've rsyncd to backup a Win2k Server to a Linux server. I'm getting this
error message when trying to perform the backup:

backup failed (Unknown module 'Modulename')

I setup the Modulename in the rsyncd.conf file on the Win2k Server. I also
have the rsyncd service running on the Win2k server. Any ideas on what could
be wrong?

Did you restart the rsyncd service after making the change? If you
run 'rsync hostname::' from another machine you should get back
a list of configured modules.

That is pretty explicit. Do you have a /bin/perl program, and
if you don't, did you say you did during the install run?
If your perl is installed elsewhere you can symlink it to /bin/perl
but it would be better to reinstall backuppc, giving it the
 correct location.

/bin/perl is not a common location for the perl binary. /usr/bin/perl
is usually a good bet (but check). If you've compiled perl yourself
it probably ended up as /usr/local/bin/perl.

This sounds like a PATH problem somewhere. Where are you running the
commands? Are you in the bin dir of BackupPC? Are you starting the
commands with ./ or are you referencing the entire path?
