Sim,
It was most conciderate of you to concider my request and respond with such

I too thought it was very well written; but apparently it was not well
written enough to accomplish its purpose :(

I've just released version 1.3 of the Bacuview web application to
its home on RubyForge, http://bacuview.rubyforge.org/, where you can
go for screen shots and to read the NEWS, ChangeLog, and INSTALL

In addition to the usual minor bug fixes, this release has one fairly
major improvement:

A bacula volume is a file, so there is no way to treat a removable drive
as a tape. It might be possible to treat the removable drive as a caddy
that carries multiple tapes, but remember that the Virtual Disk
Autochanger is a beta feature and likely is not yet ready for production
use.

RAID5 is best with a hot spare volume, otherwise...what's the advantage
that justifies increased write overhead?
Besides, does the file system you're backing up to require any more
redundancy from a disk technology standpoint than you might expect out
of the life expectancy of a single DLT tape?

Hello again,
Has nobody else run into this problem? I couldn't find anything about

I do have firewalls running. I wouldn't have though that a firewall
would cause this type of behavior, but I can see where it might.
I'll try disabling them on all systems involved to see if it makes any
difference. Thanks for the idea.

Just a small annoying caveat, but is there any reason why
bacula-dir.conf and the MTX changer scripts are logging
to /var/db/bacula/$blah instead of /var/log prefix instead?
/var/db/bacula seems to be more like a state directory (minus the pid
files)

Hi Arno,
Ok, so this looks like the SD is kind of confused.
I assume you do have volumes for both pools, and all the volumes are
heoreticall (from Baculas point of view) available to the SD. This
depends mainly on the media type, I think, but the storage the media is
assigned to might also
