Sorry, you're right.
However, changing the dtb on the boot config seemed to do it, even for a
few boards in my class that surprisingly had the same issue. Could this be
an issue worth looking into with the latest image?

Unfortunately after following those steps the wlan0 and connman services
still could not enable the wifi. Was there another step after executing "dd"
dd if=/opt/scripts/device/bone/bbbw-eeprom.dump

0+1 records out
What worked for me was this
in /boot/uEnv.txt
add:
dtb=am335x-boneblack-wireless.dtb
and reboot - wlan0 should come up
