I've just noticed this with 7.6.2 r33230 but not sure how old the error
is. I am running SBS on Windows Home Server. I have a Squeezebox 3.
Basically AAC files no longer play *at all*. This is local AAC files in
the media library, not anything to do with streaming. I'm attaching a

This is not an AAC file but an M4A file and may have different file
header structure.
Have you changed any conf file or added your own custom conf file ?

Well, the content inside is AAC and that's how SBS reports it in the
File Type info. I'm attaching a Media Info analysis which shows in more
details what is inside.
Any which way, all my .m4a files fail to play now, while they used to
work. Listening to AAC radio streams works fine on the other
AAC is the audio format. AAC can be packaged into two sort of file -
ADTS and MPEG4. Usually ADTS format have the extension aac and MPEG-4
have the extension m4a.
aac and m4a files play OK on my Ubuntu 7.6.2 system
When files are analysed and using the settings in types.conf (and
modified
OK I have renamed types.conf and convert.conf and then reinstalled the
latest nightly (r33340). The new files are 9533 bytes for convert.conf
and 4663 bytes for types.conf. I don't have a custom-types.conf at
all.
I still have exactly the same problem.
This is what types.conf says about m4a:
The files look MPEG4 now check whether SBS agrees. From WebUI check the
track to see if the WebUI detail on a track show Format: MPEG-4
I think you should consider that SBS could use a custom-types.conf and
custom-convert.conf in ANY subdirectory of server and Cache as these

Yeah, the user is administrator on Windows 7. I think the issue lies
with Squeezeplay not being able to access a file or something because
it is communicating with the library :/

I run on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and it works fine. You might
right click on the icon then select Properties/Security and look at the
permissions settings. You might need to adjust them. When I do that
allow is checked for all except special at the bottom

There are two possibilties
1. The file is strange
2. There is something still affecting your SBS MP4 setting.
To test (1) - I suggest downloading and trying to play the XLR8 Magda
podcast that referenced in this post

see from the settings in SqueezePlay. Good
I have rebooted the server and this seems to have had no effect. I've
searched for custom-types.conf and nothing comes up either.
All the m4a's I have are old files ripped by iTunes and they all come
up with AAC as their format. The Magda podcast, on the other hand,
comes up as MPEG-4 and does
After doing some more fiddling with SP I've noticed that it does also
register itself on MSB.com (if I delete the player from there and
launch SP again it reappears on MSB.com). I cannot connect to MSB.com
from the player though.
I have tried disabling firewalls as well.

faad is used to transcode ADTS, MPEG4 and ALAC files. Andyg has patched
standard faad to be able to seek for MPEG4 - this ability ffw/rew in MP4
files was a new feature in 7.6.0. There were also changes in scanner.
This seems to point to an issue about the m4a files you have.
