The Canadian Wildlife Service (Environment Canada) has changed its
Migratory Bird Hunting Regulations to allow the hunting of Mourning
Doves in central and southern Ontario starting this fall. This is an
area of Ontario that hosts many breeding and migrating bird species.

The adult Sabine's gull is still present near the filtration plant in
Ottawa (near mud lake - as given in directions yesterday).

Not sure that this sort of post should be allowed on this forum. Hunters
contribute to wildlife enhancement through licence fees as well as through
habitat preservation and development. Myself and many other hunters are
also briders and observers of many other types of wildlife. FYI dove
hunting

Perhaps Bird Studies Canada hasn't taken a political position on the dove hunt
because, in the absence of facts to the contrary, they believe in tolerance and
open-mindedness towards the endeavours of others, knowing full well that
birders wish for that same respect.

The posting earlier today commenting on hunting of Mourning Doves was
not pre-approved or made with consideration of Ontbirds posting
guidelines. Ontbirds and the Ontario Field Ornithologist have a strict
policy against flaming of individuals or organizations including the

afternoon. It was sitting on the water then flew upstream. It was taking
short flights over the water then resting.
Directions the same as previous post. Seen from shoreline just west of
filtration plant (Britannia Point) parking
Today, September 24, the MARBLED GODWIT was still present and seen from the
main park area at the west end of Mitchell's Bay, in Chatham-Kent. Also a SNOWY
EGRET was in the same vicinity, sometimes in the same field of view. Both birds
have been there off and on since the end of last week.

Black Vulture
The Sabine's Gull was still at Deschenes Rapids at 5:45PM today. It had
been fly catching just below the rapids for about 35 minutes at that point.
It was observed from the point north of the filtration plant at the east
end of Cassels Road.
Other birds of interest: three Bonaparte's Gulls and
Hawk Cliff Hawkwatch
