Yellowthroat singingby the gate - Reesor Pond lies just north of Hwy 407 on

Day 1 of the Annual Little Gull viewing weekend
Highlights:
42 Little Gulls (41 adults) recorded in the marsh. Up to 24 birds were recorded
at one time performing courtship flights over the marsh. Most of the morning
there were 5-20 gulls courting 50-500ft above the marsh.

I headed to Reesor Pond this morning, arriving at 9:45, and found the GWFG
right at the base of the east spit in front of the entrance to the pond off
Reesor Rd. All field marks looked good except the belly that was much
whiter than I recall for this species, comparing to field
Further to Tyler Hoar's report, around 9:45 am today several of us saw a Dunlin
across from and a little north of the viewing platform. It was right beside
and occasionally hiding behind an old tire.

I have found and taken multiple photographs of an interesting Empid flycatcher.
Based on the my observations in the field, my initial ID was that the bird
showed many of the field marks of an Acadian (which would be an early migrant
for this area).

Posting for my brother, Rob, who's on the road along Hwy 401 nr the Hwy 49 exit
(to Picton), the bird was an adult male sitting on a lamp post just east of the
exit to Hwy 49. This is between Belleville Napanee.

I observed a male Painted bunting from 8:10 until dusk at the home of Ken and
Lianne Atwood near Huntsville. The bird went into a spruce tree directly behind
there house and had been coming to their feeder all day today apparently. It
also favours a burn pile in their yard. If you visit walk
Today I started my Shrike surveys at Carden Plains, north of Kirkfield. I
observed two Loggerhead Shrikes, one just east of Victoria Rd, ~ 1/2 km north
of Macnamee Rd and the other along the east side of Shrike Rd. Despite the poor
weather, birding was active. Also heard two American Bitterns
30 birders braved the damp, cold conditions to enjoy a good day's birding
around and within the Minesing Swamp today.
73 species included hundreds of ducks in the extensive flooded areas around the
swamp as well as hordes of icterids and early migrants.
At least 500 Rusty Blackbirds were tallied
