After two weeks we are at 178 total bird species reported in Ontario this
winter so far. With the Christmas Bird Counts starting this weekend we can
hopefully fill in the few remaining gaps and add some rarities to the list. I

Today at around 10a.m. we saw one *black backed woodpecker f*ly over as we
were standing in the place where we saw 4 boreal chickadees last Sunday 9
December. The location is on the trail just off the Eardley-Masham Road at

We just got a report of a Great Gray Owl that flew across Highway 60 between km
22 and km 23. This may be one of the birds that were in that very area several
weeks ago.

While checking the Rideau River from Montreal Rd. to Hwy 417 by snowshoe, I
saw one male Barrow's Goldeneye along with some Commons, at 2:30 pm today.
Park vehicle at Strathcona Park and walk (icy) left (north) about 100 m. No
female BAGO seen.

417 to Arnprior and exit at White Lake exit. Go into Arnprior and turn left

the South Peel Naturalists' Club of Mississauga and Oakville also know
Bird Studies Canada Christmas Bird Count ONPH. I won't have complete
