[Ontbirds] Point Pelee National Park Festival of Birds - May 14, 2014

There was a mini-fallout of warblers at the Tip of Point Pelee this morning with females of many species being the most obvious. The warblers at the Tip included: CANADA, BLACKBURNIAN, MAGNOLIA, BLACKPOLL, and a late-ish PALM. A MOURNING WARBLER was reported just south of the washroom building

Snowy owl perched on the lighthouse deck for about 3 hours around supper time May 13 . The Bruce Mines lighthouse is located just off hwy 17 on Bruce Bay Rd, 45 minutes east of Sault. Ste Marie. The location is well signed. Permission from landowner required.

Posting for Brandon Holden. Adult alternate Eared Grebe on the lake; 2nd-year Franklin's and adult alternate Laughing (same bird as yesterday) standing on the beach at Wheatley Harbour. The Franklin's has since taken flight, but could still be in the area (check Hillman's or surrounding fields).

Kevin Seymour, Greg Stuart and I just saw the Laughing Gull at Wheatley Harbour Essex side. It was on the docks and we watched it for a few minutes before it flew off further north into the harbour. We didn't see where it ended up. Directions: foot of Erie street in Wheatley. Good birding

Ontbirders,‎Brandon Holden and I just had a Mississippi Kite that Brandon spotted flying over our cottage near Wheatley Provincial Park. The bird was flying along the lake shore heading west toward Pelee. Birders at Pelee should watch for this bird as it will likely end up in the park.Cheers,Barb

[Ontbirds] Yellow-throated Warbler - Toronto Islands

Today I only birded Hanlan’s Point and that seemed to be enough as with 20 species of Warblers I found I spotted a nice male Yellow-throated Warbler in the wooded area between the tennis courts and the sand dunes. This bird makes it 300 species on the unofficial Toronto Islands Check List.

[Ontbirds] Dickcissel? at Prince Edward Point NWA

I came across an odd bird today at Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area. It had the white lower eye crescent and thin dark throat stripe of a dickcissel but unlike a dickcissel its head was gray without any hint of yellow and it appears to have a wingbar. Photos and a discussion of the bird
