A Black-backed Woodpecker was seen and photographed yesterday, Thursday
September19th just before 1pm at Britannia Conservation Area ( Mud Lake).
It was seen from the gravel path that leads from Cassel's Road into Britannia
Woods a short distance from Cassel's Road at the point where the path

Spent the morning birding various areas on the east side of Ottawa. One of the
highlights was a female Black-backed Woodpecker at the Mer Bleue. It was
pecking away on a dying spruce tree at the end of the first bridge along the
main trail. Over along Milton Road we observed 2
Hi Everyone
Yesterday afternoon I observed a male Black-backed Woodpecker at
Britannia Conservation area/Mud Lake along the ridge. The bird flew in from
the north side of the river calling and landed in a large dead tree. Sat for
a few seconds and continued south towards the woods.
At about 11:30 am today I spotted a female Black-Backed Woodpecker near the
crossroads of Old Carp Rd. and 2nd Line Rd, northwest of Kanata.
She was about 200m southwest of the crossroads, near a house on the south side
of the Old Carp Rd.
