Just installed the app on the advice of a friend. I used to use the
app 'Key Xing' to give functionality to my F keys. I'd assign them
all to open my apps, and now that I've upgraded from the ol' G4 to the
Snow Leopard, I'm told that QS is the way to go.
So, assigning the hotkeys to
QS is running fine on my new MBP, but tajes up 167 MB RAM. Is that
usual?

Depending on what you're doing, QS can sometimes take up lots of RAM.
First port of call would be to check you catalog size. Do you have any items
in your catalog that you don't actually need in there? Getting rid of them
will help reduce QS's footprint.
