Near the near bottom of the list in Device Manager, there will be a grouping
for Universal Serial Bus Controllers. You do not want to disable them, that

I would be inclined to agree with you.
Shutting the external drive off with it's switch shouldn't have any affect
on the computer,
however, if the drive is being written to at the time you turn it off, this
will most certainly cause data loss or corruption.

Almost sounds like some form of language/character set/encoding conversion,
if you get my drift - that might make it show up as a bunch of weird
characters, etc.
If, using windows 7, in the start menu, you start typing language, there
