This feels like LMS is tied up doing some other task (e.g. scanning)
The Boom knob is not a potentiometer but a rotary encoder.
Check with Philippe, he may have a spare left see
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?111838-Squeezebox-Boom-Rotary-Encoder
where user had same problem, push button failure.

OK - that probably rules out WLAN card although I had a failing WLAN
card in a SB3 which caused resets even if using cable connection.
If Boom is unusable - replacing WLAN card is
When WLAN card starts to fail - it happens gradually - so need to
confirm that when you tested with cable, you verified that cable
networking was being used (e.g. checked on Router, maybe LMS information
page) - just plugging a cable into player will not change over from Wifi
to cable.
edit:
IIRC The Boom PSU needs a high current rating as there is surge on power
on when charging the internal hicap
Also the PSU on pre-production Booms were 18V 1.67A - it'll work but
lots of excess heat.

Radio is part of LMS and works with Tune-in.
RadioNet is a plugin I wrote and takes station list from the Radio.net
(US & English) service by default. Settings

Did you try putting United Kingdom or Berlin in the search box ?
I think the search is more flexible that just station name.

Could it stem back to the UK court case where Tunein is deemed to be a
service that will make UK users infringe copyright if they play stations
through Tune-in.

I think something is not right with your installation. Any message in
server.log
Try 7.9.4 or 8.0.0.
50 Countries under Europe. Under Most popular I get 26 station for both
UK & Germany.
The radio list is provided by Tune-in which has a very extensive list of
station but Tune-in like to add

When the LMS disappears - is LMS still running on that system ?
Is there anything in the server.log ?

Boom has no https support either. If you use other internet services

Definitely start with the Catalina fixes on permissions

Again I don;t know mac but if it is really old- you need more than MacOS
version but also processor

The olderSB player (i.e.not Radio or Topuch) use same WLAN card - SB2,

A bad WIFI card can cause these symptoms.
You can remove the WIFI
Squeezebox Radio ones are not right.

Isn't that CSPAN version of NPR which has station code WCSP-FM (i.e. a
local Washington DC station)

There are many threads use google to search - something like
"site:forums.slimdevices.com wlan card " or "site:forums.slimdevices.com
wifi card "
Here is a post by a user with link to instructionb hwo to disassemble
Boom and a link (now dead) to a card
The WLAN card in Boom, SB2, Sb3, Classic,Transporter and Receiver often
fails but in a gradual erratic way - one way oftens reset the device
after a few minutes.
The WLAN card is easy and cheap ($/£/5-10) to replace.
PSU failure (i.e low voltage/current) can also result in strange
behaviours

To see if the problem is network related rather than content - try using
"proxed streaming". For Boom MP3/WMA internet radio streams (i.e. TCP
http/GET connection ) goes straight from broadcaster to Boom - only
metadata is sent to LMS. With proxied streams internet radio goes from
Broadcaster

The SB players do not support https when playing thro' mysqeezebox.com
When changing over to https some station retain the http
The URL is now a https one (
https://kclustream.callutheran.edu:8090/kclump3 ) and so will not play
directly on many SB players as https is not supported - I'm guessing
you'll need a new version 7.9.1 of LMS and probably enable proxied
streaming for the player.
If the station is a NPR one -

Did you not try or even check my suggestion. There are plugins that do
sync for non Logitech "speakers" but sync depend on the underlying
protoicols and upnp has

What is the "Power on Resume Setting" for the player ?
It may be worth trying the "Stop at Power

There is only one MP3 URLs to play BBC - whether you use Logitech BBC

The WLAN cards in SB3, Boom and transporter can fail gradually causing
partial powerups before finally preventing player boot. The WLAN card
is easiily replaced and replacements

You can also replace the wifi card in Boom as it is a plugin. You don't
need a new card as there are (were ?) plenty of wifi card from old
laptops which are compaitble see
