I am using a portable version of brltty and a HIMS note taker over
bluetooth serial. Since this is only braille display I have, I too can't
get the USB to work. Perhaps try connection over bluetooth? Lastly, brltty
is not listed in the options in the latest nvda. I hope this helps.

I found out something interesting as well.
I just started brltty with the run-brltty.bat file.
As a normal user as well as a admin.
brltty came up and found my device (handy tech braille star 80).
I was able to use the console.

Downgrading NVDA to such a very old version isn't an option.
The person who would need this workaround works on Windows 11 so running the
latest NVDA would be a requirement.
But it seems that also brltty seems not to be able to find the braille device
in the first place.

Thank you for pointing this out. On Windows 11, I've only tested BRLTTY 6.6
with a Handy Tech Modular Evolution braille display in cmd (console). I'm only
able to get it working if I start cmd as administrator. Otherwise I get
permission errors.

I think that brltty does work on window but not with nvda and jaws. As
far as I know brltty 6.4 is used in narrators. Lastly I use brltty 6.6
frequently with window CMD console. My suggestion is use older nvda version
such as 2022. Hope it helps.
