I don't think marco is in cause in the end. Killing it has no impact on

I'm using GNOME 43.4 with its default window manager - to the best of my
knowledge, that's Mutter these days.
If you can kill the Marco process from another console and the
problem clears, then you will know that is probably it. I set up Debian
to use Metacity, which is not difficult. If you want the instructions,
let me know, but it isn't a good long term solution.
