The ICOM 7300 is supposed to go for around $1200 to $1500
Can one get a 100Watt Flex for that?

Telepost also offers a QSD process in their aftermarket panadapter for

All I know is that my Flex experience has been very disappointing from a
customer service perspective.

The Flex 5000 was the 1st DDC/DUC from Flex,
but the 1000, 1500, and 3000 used QSD which is
a cheaper direct sampling technology as have many
other SDRs in the last 10 years or so.

Sorry about your experiences with Flex. Their products and
service have improved in the last two years, but I'll say no
more on that. As for a $1,500 Flex radio to compare to the
7300, there isn't one because it's really apples and oranges.

Yeah, I heard about it last week. It's a
DDC/DUC, FPGA based SDR in a box. So, I
guess we'll see how she performs and sells.
I don't think Flex Radio is too worried about
this yet. BTW, Flex's new Smart SDR ver. 1.5
is due out in September.

I don’t have a Flex, so I cannot comment. I love my K3.

The QSD SDR has provided very good receiver performance at a lower cost than
conventional receivers and it has achieved the goal of making the modulator
and demodulator a part of the digital signal processing, bridging the gap
between IF DSP and AF DSP processors. But it still has one mixing
Scott:
Well, the DDC/DUC (Direct Down/UP Conversion) has
a single A/D converter followed by digital quadrature
mixer in the form of an FPGA which outputs a digital I,Q
stream. QSD RXs have a hybrid quadrature mixer (basically
analog) followed by two A/D converters producing the I,Q
stream.
Thanks, Gary.
I had the same thought about Flex.
They are at the crest of the SDR product wave. Only thing is marketing
Icom IS Icom with loyal followers who don't stray. Waiting for the Sherwood
es QST labs reviews.

ICOM is claiming that they are the first to offer direct sampling . I
thought that most of the new Flex line already did that.
Seems that all new rigs now claim they are SDR. Whatever that is.
