Jose, were you trying to hit the repeater from Katy with a handheld radio (with an antenna directly attached to that radio) from Katy? If so, that was probably the issue. You will likely need to get your antenna up higher for a 5 watt handheld to work from that distance... Sent from my

the most important thing you can get for your new radio is an antenna..Thats a never ending subject with a million solutions...  next, since that radio is a 12 volt radio you need a power supply, it converts yourwall voltage to 12 volts.. Icom makes one that matches the set but you can get
