One of the best deals I've ever seen (or owned) for a dual band mag mount is the MFJ-1728B . It's a little long, but it also does 6m. Comes with a BNC adapter for your HT, and NMO mounts to the base. I purchased a separate ground plane "kit"

Hey, Jonathan, That is exactly how you are to do it. One point though, you do not have to specify the exact segment to place it. Just give the LOAD window a "percentage from the end" and it will place it close enough. However, If you do have the 500 segment version you can place it exactly

I got a question about analyzing antennas with traps and loading. If you're familiar with the book "The Short Vertical Antenna and Ground Radial" by Sevick, I simulated one of the antennas he wrote about in an NEC2 system and I think I got it right, but the way that you put traps and loading

+1 for the Tram 1185. I’ve been using it as a “permanent” mobile antenna on my daily driver for ~7 years, through the back side of the trunk lid. No damage to the cable or the weatherstripping, no leaks. I like it so much (and it’s so cheap) that I keep several around for portable use, go
