Re: [Care2002-developers] Issue in care2x-tz

2013-06-10 Thread t...@weberpafrica.com
Hi prabakaran,

For the last month I have been asking you what code you are using, and
getting no reply. You cannot expect people to help you if you don't
reply with the information they ask for. Are you using the github link
that I sent you
(https://github.com/timschofield/care2x/archive/master.zip)?

There are several changes that have been done there, and we have done
a huge amount of work on cleaning the code up. If you are not using
that code then you will continue to get problems.

Also please don't cc so many email addresses, everybody that may help
you is subscribed to care2002-developers@lists.sourceforge.net so that
is the only one you need. Bombarding people with many copies of the
same mail is likely to irritate those who would help, rather than
encourage them.

Thanks
Tim

To see this code working go here:

http://schofield.no-ip.biz/care2x/index.php

user: admin
password: kwamoja

To use something like care2x in a live hospital environment you need
either the skills to look into the code, and at least help to debug
problems, or to pay for support from those who know the code well.

I think the answer to your problems is somewhere in your apache logs.

Thanks

Re: [Care2002-developers] Issue in care2x-tz

2013-06-13 Thread t...@weberpafrica.com
Hi Moye,

How are things with you?

I agree that all the deprecated stuff needs removing and we have made a
start on that. The version I have on github will work on 5.4 now, although
it still has a number of warnings/notices that need sorting. I got
(another) private email from Prabakaran saying that making that missing
directory got him working.

The link to my server that I posted is running 5.4.

Any help removing deprecated stuff is greatly appreciated :-)

Thanks
Tim

From my understanding care2x-tz works well with php 5.3.5 and below , dont
force it to run on a version higher than that.
If you do you will deprecated error messages.

If you want to run on a higher version, then change all the deprecated
values and go through the log to make necessary changes

Other than that , you are going to post and post and post that you are
getting error messages

This was a serious request, not aimed just to Moye. Lots of people
appear interested in this branch, but nobody ever gets killed in the
stampede to help out cleaning it up. Most of the work does not require
a high degree of programming knowledge. Most of the issues are things
that are duplicated throughout the code, and the same solution just
needs applying to each instance of the problem.

Am happy to write a tutorial on how to do all this, but only if there
is sufficient interest.

Thanks

[Care2002-developers] Insurance database tables

2014-07-17 Thread t...@weberpafrica.com
Dear all,

I am currently working on the 2.7 branch here
https://github.com/care2x/2.7 and am looking to bring in the changes
that have been done over the years in the East African version.

I am currently trying to get an understanding of the insurance tables.
I can see 4 tables:

++
Tables_in_care2x (%insurance%)
++
care_class_insurance
care_insurance_firm
care_person_insurance
care_type_insurance
++

I am trying to work out the purpose of these tables and how they get updated.

Obviously care_insurance_firm is updated by this script
modules/insurance_co/insurance_co_new.php and its purpose is obvious.

I assume care_person_insurance is intended to store the persons
interaction with an insurance company. However there seems to be very
little to it, basically just a status and a free form text field.

I can see what care_class_insurance may be for but again the fields
are actually limited to a status and free form text field. I am unsure
what if any use care2x currently makes of this table. Is it perhaps
for future use?

Finally care_type_insurance appears a duplication of
care_class_insurance and doesn't seem to be referenced in the code.
Can this table be removed??

I would appreciate the input of those more knowledgeable than myself,
as I am probably totally wrong on the above :-)

Thanks
Tim

[Care2002-developers] Pharmacy items

2014-07-22 Thread t...@weberpafrica.com
This is a similar question to the one about radiology tests. As Moye
said in the old East African version there was a table called
care_tz_drugsandservices where all item information was kept.

In 2.7 there are two tables that seem relevant to pharmaceuticals,
care_pharma_products_main and care_pharma_products_main_sub. However
the interface just seems to have the one input screen with the
following fields in:

Order number
Article name
Generic name
Description
Packaging
CAVE
Category
Minimum order
Maximum order
No. of pcs. per order
Industrial number
License number
Picture file

Am I correct in saying these are the only fields that are needed in
2.7? Also am I correct in saying that the Order Number is the unique
identifier for the item?

The meaning of most of these fields is self evident but it would be
useful to have the input of someone else.

Thanks
Tim

Re: [Care2002-developers] xml-rpc libraries

2014-07-23 Thread t...@weberpafrica.com
Hi Robert,

Thanks for your reply. The system we currently have works well and is
based on the great work you and your team did on the Care2x East
African version. The problem is that the EA version has become
somewhat disconnected from the main project and also has bugs that
have been fixed in the main line. The work I am doing at the moment
is an attempt to follow up on our previous discussions at Med-e-Tel
etc on unifying the code base. To achieve this, functionality we have
in the EA version must be brought in, and central to that is the ERP
integration. It should be said that this ERP integration is entirely
optional and is switched on and off by a configuration switch so those
not wanting it don't have to use it. Also there is nothing stopping
people from integrating any other ERP and our work should considerably
help them in doing that. The code changes are not very intrusive.

As far as billing an item goes the ERP doesn't care what the item is,
just that an item is there that needs billing. What the ERP needs is a
unique code that defines the item prescribed to the patient so that it
can be matched up with the correct price list and the correct costing.
Without this unique code I am not sure how any invoicing/costing can
happen though I am open to persuasion if there is a way to do it. Your
example of an outsourced CT-scan (where the patient pays the hospital
doing the scan directly) would be solved by having a unique code
shared with the ERP for an item that is not to be billed. That's all
the ERP cares about. However it would be flexible enough to have a
CT-scan code for the scan being done at the prescribing hospital.

Yes there are workflow issues and my experience is that each hospital
has its own unique work flow issues. A one size fits all solution
will never happen. Where the implementer earns their money is moulding
these workflows and the software together to form a system that works
for that hospital. However without the software as a base this becomes
impossible.

The reason I am sending these messages to the list is to try and
create discussion around this so that we can get the best result
possible. It is also a requirement that those hospitals currently
using care2x in one form or another should be able to easily
transition to the new version.

Thanks
tim

I will. :) The issue here is that we might have to change care2x its
workflow a bit.

There is an overlap between medical processing and financial processing.
Out of the perspective of an HIS (or MRS) I do see here processing what has
to be filled with measurements for later reporting and analysis - out of the
ERP part it representing values describing values on an invoice.
For the East African version there was a so called front side billing
implemented. It picked out the values of such services and linked it to an
price list, result was an invoice to the OPD patient. On care2x 2.7 if
ecombill is been used all these values has to be re-entered again (by an
user role called billing officer).

There are some different workflows what has to be checked out. As well as
the processing that the patient will be transferred to another hospital and
the (e.g.) CT-Scan will be done there, just results will be entered to
care2x. Out of care2x perspective: No problem at all. Out of ERP/Billing
perspective we do have quite another case. Maybe?

I will make some ideas how that can be done.

Robert

be mysqli and care2x uses the correct ADODB functions, no problem.
However there are a number of entries in the code such as:

if ($dbtype='mysql') {

Thanks Tim, you're actually right. That could cover side effects. I suggest
to change

if ($dbtype='mysql')

to

if ($dbtype='mysql' || $dbtype='mysqli')

Maybe some out there still using mysql. To refactor the above is quite still
easy, but have to check a bit more into detail I guess :)

I will give feedback tomorrow. Ok?

[Care2002-developers] The status and future of Care2x

2014-09-23 Thread t...@weberpafrica.com
The recent emails regarding care2x in Argentina, and the low level of
response reminded me that I have been meaning to send this email for
sometime.

Having spoken to some Universities recently the general opinion seems
to be that Care2x rates very highly amongst open source HIS in terms
of the amount of functionality, but most people tell me they believe
the project to be dead.

Is this true?

I know Moye and others are working on the East African branch, that
Gjergj is working with Albanian hospitals, and Robert is working in
Germany but in overall project terms activity is very low. Emails to
this mailing list rarely get answered, and the web site has not been
updated in a long time.

There has been intermittent discussions for many years about a rewrite
from scratch but I do not see any progress on this and I think if it
was going to be achieved it would be - Sorry if that sounds harsh but
as can be seen here
http://sourceforge.net/p/care2002/mailman/care2002-developers/?style=flatviewmonth=200803viewday=8
this is a very very old topic in care2x.

That leaves taking the current code and moving it on. This is a big
job as PHP/mysql has moved on a long way and a lot of stuff that
existing care2x depends on is now deprecated and even removed. If you
don't believe me set error_reporting to -1 and set display_errors to
On in PHP and then try using Care2x. I tried sending emails to the
list a few months ago to try and generate discussion and help on these
issues but got very few replies and even less help. Just getting it
working with PHP 5.5 would be a time consuming job that requires a
dedicated group of people. The work is not that tough, but there is a
lot and is too much for one person.

So what do people see as the future of Care2x? Is there a group of
people interested in working on bringing the current code up to
scratch?

Thanks
Tim

Some stages could be:

1a) The first is to tune the latest version that works (ie: care2014).
(This requires commitment from all members of Care2x)

1b) Post (publish) this version as stable

1c) only make bug fixes in this version or delayed comit additions
Enable the automatic publication as nightly (every night) to access the

2a) Simultaneously do a fork over to the new version which will carry the
major changes.
(Here I would like to propose real modularization of the project)
This will help you get the best possible module even if belonging to another
external project

2b) Continue with bug fixes to regain functionality like (care2014)

3) Reevaluate what has been done.

lot and is too much for one person.

So what do people see as the future of Care2x? Is there a group of
people interested in working on bringing the current code up to
 scratch?

 Thanks

Re: [Care2002-developers] The status and future of Care2x

2014-10-02 Thread t...@weberpafrica.com
Hi Robert, I hope all is well with you and your family.

As I have mentioned both publicly and privately I am finding more and
more people telling me that care2x was a great project with more
functionality than other open source HIS but that it is no longer
maintained and basically dead. My point in starting this thread was to
try and show that this was not the case, however the lack of reaction
seemed to show the opposite. Indeed I sent many emails to the list
earlier in the year when I was trying to work on stabilising the code
to work with current PHP versions but again got very little response.

As you know all code suffers from bit rot
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_rot) and care2x has some real
issues in this area. Anybody who doubts this should try setting
error_reporting to -1 and viewing the results with any version of PHP
greater than 5.2. All the active versions of care2x I have seen suffer
from this.

I appreciate just how busy you are and how much work you have already
put into care2x. To fix the issues requires a concerted effort by a
group of people working together, not just by a few individuals.
However from private email exchanges I have had recently it seems
there is a chicken and egg situation. People are reluctant to give
their time if they do not believe that the project has a future.

I agree with you that there are plenty of areas non-programmers can
help. Especially the web site. It would be great if someone with some
design ability were to offer to update the web site. It is the primary
means by which people get their info about the project and having the
main page say that the last update was nearly 4 years ago does not
look good :) I think a revitalised web site is prerequisite for
getting developers involved.

Also when development work gets discussed it would be much better to
discuss it here and so people know what is happening and it encourages
others to join in.

As the medfloss site I linked to shows, there is real interest in
care2x and if we could get a group of people working together we can
really make this happen.

HiHo Tim,

as the man who got all the support@care2x mails I can briefly confirm that
there is a huge market on care2x. Most of the questions receiving me are
always the same:

questions about
- best practice, what OS should be used
- language support - how to add languages what can be downloaded by
sf.net
- etc.

Approx. 2 times per week always the same questions.

Most of them are not really that big deal to post it here on the developers
list, can be answered within minutes or just a link to existing howtos and it
is been done.

Care2x is what it is, a non profit project. You know that Gjergj, you and
me working on a stable 2.7 release but sadly I do not have enough time to
give the time what the project will need...

Think also about the still rising questions about DICOM viewer. Almost been
answered via PM or CC, you also getting it.

There are some still pending other - non development - tasks where everybody
could support. Especially the above mentioned language files are almost not
complete or not correct translated. There is no
programming skills been needed, just native speaker.

Also if there are some contributions about to maintain the wiki or website.
Also there is no development skills been needed. So there is quite a lot of
work. :)

Last but not least, there are some view core developer who spending their
free time to this project. I would not really point these fingers to exactly
those people - there could be the risk to demotivate and loose it as well.

If anyone feels to be ready to contribute:
https://www.devex.com/news/how-to-ace-your-application-to-the-healthcare-innovation-award-83803

Go for it. We will give background support as best we can. But there is - out
of my point of view - no time what it would need that I could successfully
contribute for it.

I think this is the first decision that needs making.

2.7 is the latest functioning code from sourceforge.
2.8 is a version that Robert/Gjergj worked on, but as I understand it
is incomplete and needs some work to make functional (mainly I think
on the new menu system but they can explain better than me)
Vienna is I believe what Gjergj has working in Albanian hospitals.
Does this have an up to date English translation with it?

2.7 - the current version, just smaller fixes and clearer structure in

2.7 is our target, we just used github because git support on sf.net
is ... well, there is git. Somehow working. No other reason.

2.8 was a try, to remove the frameset on the start and replacing it with
bootstrap menu. It was just a pilot. It was mainly your doubts that this
might having no future on the care2x market and so we stopped focusing
it. We can even drop that brach out. I had not done it so far because I
am not sure that the current frameset solution really has a long term
future and maybe it should be a perspective to have an eye on it.

vieanna shows another prototype of having some restructure of e.g.
that smarty templates is no longer under gui folder, it is been removed
to its module. Additionally some individual modules from Gjergj. We can
take a look what makes sense to move it to 2.7.

It would be a really nice idea if people who maintain other versions
of the code could list them here hopefully with a location of the
code, and what are the additional functions that have been used.

Thanks

[Care2002-developers] Which version

3) If I decide to participate taking all or parts of the project, I find that
is very difficult to choose which version is the most appropriate starting
point.

- I choose one that has a language or a translation closest to what I can use
?
- the one with the most updated tools (php or mysq) in its version ?
- which have better modular design ?

These are difficult questions to answer without wasting hundreds of hours
reviewing
the source code and installing the project.

It was agreed yesterday that the 2.7 branch from:
https://github.com/care2x would be the best starting point for
everybody to work from.
