Thanks for the reply. Yes I have opened up the caret5.png image and it shows up
quite nicely. Our image sets are huge so could it be that there is a limit to
the size of the images that caret can open up? The images in png format are
over 2 mb in size so maybe that could be an issue?

My guess is that it's more likely a png version issue, as John
suggested, rather than a size issue. Your best bet is to try converting
to another format. Try entering convert at the Linux command line.
If you get Command not found then you probably don't have ImageMagick

a brain slice to jpeg and yet when I tried to open the resulting jpeg in the

It doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong, but it sounds like
there is a problem with either Caret or your png images.
I'm at home with a sick child today, and John Harwell won't be in until
