Try the command "ldd caret5 | grep png" ("ldd caret5" will show all
libraries caret5 is trying to load). This should show you the path
from which caret5 is trying to load libpng12.so.0. Use the reported
path for your symbolic link to a libpng.

Try making sure /usr/lib64 is in your LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable, e.g.:
setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH /usr/lib64:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
... or if your shell is bash:
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib64:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
