I was there twice last wk. & was mighty grateful for 4 wheel drive along the
thruway because the mud was deep & very slippery. The mud is from the sloppy,
wet, black muck that has been dug out to form the new pools. It is being hauled
over by the river & lots of it gets dropped on the roadway or

Below is a link to a bit more information about the ROSS'S GULL that I
found at Long Point on the east shore of Cayuga Lake today. Needless
to say, this is among the most unexpected birds that I've found, in
part because I had been hoping for Sooty Tern, Royal Tern, or a
storm-petrel. Ross's Gull w
Several people have emailed and asked us why the wildlife drive was closed.
We do not know, we went there at 1pm and the visitors center was closed and
the gate was closed on the wildlife drive. We just thought we would pass it
on in case anyone else was headed there. We imagine it was because of S

On a neighborhood walk today from 1600 to 1700, I was a bit surprised to
encounter a PALM WARBLER (Eastern) in a willow clump. Also seen were 37
ROBINS heading south, and a lone E.MEADOWLARK in the field across the road.

Hi Linda and Liz,
I enjoyed hearing about both these reports.
I had over 30 Pine Siskins eating on my deck rail yesterday and probably 18
lovely Cedar Waxwings eating Cedar berries in my front yard today.
Gotta run down to the lake to see if there is anything there...

Beautiful pair of Bluebirds in my back garden right now.
Which is a treat as I rarely see them due to preponderance of House

This morning there were 4 Fox Sparrows working in the leaf litter in one of
our flower beds. About 11:30 a flock of 8 Evening Grosbeaks came to the
feeders. After feeding, they hung out in the top of an ash tree for a
while. No sign of them now at 12:30. We also had varying numbers of Pine

Thanks Liz and Linda for the reminder to report all manner of exciting
avian things!
In that spirit, I must shout: Pine Siskins at my feeder!! (A first at this
house on West Hill, and there were 6!)
Also, we had a white-specklle-headed House Finch... partially leucistic??
Neat.

Hello Liz,
Glad you overcame your shyness to report this, kinglets are always great
to hear about and also I always love to vicariously experience.peoples'
enjoyment.
Especially as this list seems to decrease in population, it is wonderful to
have people step forward to share special moments. I
