[cayugabirds-l] Barn swallows

2010-09-08 Thread M K Mannella
In case anyone is interested, last night we still had about a dozen
BARN SWALLOWS. Usually they are gone by now. Also unusual is at
least two pairs had a second brood.

2010-09-08 Thread Jay McGowan
Tim Lenz just called to say he is with Marshall Iliff, who just spotted an
immature FRANKLIN'S GULL in Puddlers Marsh on Towpath, Montezuma. The Ruff
and Red Knot are also still around.

[cayugabirds-l] 3 SANDHILL CRANES at Montezuma Audubon Center

2010-09-08 Thread MACBirders
3 SANDHILL CRANES were spotted by Dave Spier at 11:45am on the Sandpiper
Shallows (South Marsh) at the Montezuma Audubon Center. They were eating
out of the muddy shalllows vigorously. We were able to put a scope on them
from inside the building. As of now they are still here.

[cayugabirds-l] Montezuma 8Sep10

2010-09-08 Thread Jay McGowan
Matt Medler and I made a quick trip up to Montezuma just now. The FRANKLINS
GULL was still out on the mudflats, first in Puddlers then in various spots
in Knox-Marsellus. The juvenile RUFF was out with big flocks of yellowlegs
and peeps, sometimes hard to pick out in the distance. The RED KNOT was also
present, most obvious in flight. The Red-necked Phalarope count has climbed
to 10. The juvenile LITTLE BLUE HERON was in the channel to the right from
the platform at Mays Point.

Re: [cayugabirds-l] Franklin's Gull, Montezuma, Yes

2010-09-08 Thread James G. Kohlenberg
Ann Mitchell and I watched the Franklin's Gull in the same area until dusk. We
couldn't verify the Ruff or Knot because of distance and low light.

We couldn't find the Little Blue Heron at May's Point. We checked other likely
spots with no luck. It could easily still be there just behind the reeds. Duck
numbers and variety seemed to have increased at May's.

[cayugabirds-l] Little Blue Heron Franklin's Gull

2010-09-08 Thread Leona Lauster
I looked for the Franklin's Gull for a couple hours from the towpath on this
cloudy afternoon with no luck. Then as I was leaving the sun came out so I
decided to check Knox-Marcellus from East Road and found it. I first noticed
it flying along with shorebirds that got up. I followed it with my scope and
when it landed I could see the dark cheeks.
The Little Blue Heron was at May's Point Pool this afternoon at 3:50 pm. It
was straight out from the viewing platform and then it flew to the right and
landed along the far edge. I did not see the Glossy Ibis today.
