Driving up to Oswego Friday late afternoon we noted large gathering of Snow
Geese on Cayuga Lake just south of Aurora. At Mud Lock there were over 100
swans + Canadas. Oswego marinas (Sat. afternoon) featured nearly 100 pairs

While traversing Upper Buttermilk Park (muddy, icy), I was surprised to
find 2 GREAT BLUE HERON flying about the Lake Treman area together.
There is some open water there, and 11 Canada Geese were also present.
I assume the two birds were a pair that was checking out this area as a

Hi all,
Six hardy souls joined me on the trip around Cayuga Lake.
We started at Diary Bar, where we heard a Robin singing made us feel it is
spring and warm. A Junco was also singing from the same location. We saw and
heard a Killdeer circling above our head, while some of the Common Grackles
Today around 1300, a pair of tundra swans was walking around on the ice of the
pond at the Compost Facility. One had a strongly drooped left wing. But as i
sat, getting my camera out, they took off and they both flew well, south, then
turning west toward the Lake.
Not a match for the many swa
There was obviously a big flight of TUNDRA SWANS last night and today. I saw a
total of 15 TUNDRA SWANS migrating today in smaller groups than the geese. In
addition, one birder found at least 36 TUNDRA SWANS in one part of Broome
County which is
unprecedented for down here.
On Saturday, M
Currently 103 Tundra Swans in the pond to the west of Kahler Road at the Speer
Memorial Park. They are in the back pond behind Lowe Pond. Also one Mute Swan
keeping its distance and the usual resident flock of Canada Geese.

I decided to check the migration from Mt. Pleasant today between 10:30 and
12:30. Flocks of geese filled the sky in every direction, but not as
concentrated as yesterday's mid-day movement. I suspect that I missed much of
the movement, especially of Snows as many flocks passed over as I headed u
Enormous gathering (~10k if not ~100k) of snow geese in the mucklands of
Savannah, SE and SW of the "Potatoes" building. Not terribly close to the road,
but close enough during a big "repositioning event" to just make you stare in
awe. With them are many swans, and a good sized flock of pintails
On ice edge , by open water, west side Cayuga Lake, opposite Union Springs.
Seen from Frontenac Marina, basin St. U. Springs.

First of the year for us. Two dropped down onto the still frozen farm pond
behind us on South Hill. Expert flying as they dropped almost vertically in
the stiff NW wind. Not sure they would want to take off in this wind, in
spite of frozen water.

Watching the movement of snow geese from my office in the Veterinary Research
Tower today has been quite interesting. Almost all flocks have made a wide arc
northeast (coming from the direction of Mt. Pleasant) of the tower that brings
them over Cayuga Heights and then they drop down toward the
Mobs of them flying north, on west side of. Cay. lake offshore Lansing Station
