returning north 30min or so into the count - probably du
I made a spur of the moment drive this afternoon to Summerhill hoping
to see something new. The trees were wintery looking with about an inch of new
snow. A stop at Hovel Chalet didn't surprise me with anything unusual, but did
lead to a hot tip of 17 EVENING GROSBEAKS at 1270 Lake Como
Thanks Paul.

Today the 3 Cattle Egrets were still at the Goose Haven field on the east
side route 89 north of 5 and 20 but only visible from the very north end of
the field as they were behind the berm. 1 Common Yellowthroat was at the

This afternoon I went for a stroll around the Park Preserve. There were a fair
number of birds around, highlighted by a flock of 12 COMMON REDPOLLs flying
overhead calling. I also had a single flyover finch, which was likely a
White-winged Crossbill but I didn't see it well and it never called.
Hi all,
A few minutes ago I was looking out into the yard from my computer room and was
watching a pair of juncos checking out something from the ground, when a
red-bellied landed on a hawthorn branch some 8 feet away from me. I was pleased

I checked Dryden Lake this morning a little after 10 and found the
following (counts are rough):
25 Pied-billed Grebes
25 Ring-necked Ducks
10 Ruddy Ducks
15 Hooded Mergansers

Along the trail by the lake, I came across a little group of chickadees and

This morning I have noted several STARLINGS, several male RED-WINGED
BLACKBIRDS, and 1 male GRACKLE at our feeders. The big surprise has been a
flock of 40-50 BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS and RUSTY BLACKBIRDS (about half and
half). I first noticed them under a small apple tree at the back of the
yard; t

Finally, I had a pair of Evening Grosbeaks! They're a new yard bird for me
and only the second time I've ever seen one. For the past few weeks I've had
