Since this is my first spring in Trumansburg since I left Brooktondale, I'm

Just had a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK "making lazy circles in the sky" as it
headed NW.

Last evening at dusk a Common Nighthawk flew over, quite low. I believe the
location of the sighting (Bower Road, Trumansburg) is out of the basin.

For the last two mornings I've had 15 Red-winged Blackbirds and a Song
Sparrow picking up seeds under my feeders. This morning a Grackle has
joined them.
Yesterday I enjoyed the sights and sounds of hundreds of Canada Geese
heading north, with a few Snows here and there.
Yippee!!

I'm astounded that I just had a male PEREGRINE FALCON perched in a small
tree directly across the road from me! I watched it for several minutes as
it sat quietly. I was able to see it perfectly through my living room
window.

Just added GOLDEN EAGLE to my yard list! Two soaring fairly low but gaining
altitude as they moved to the southeast. I could easily see bands on the
tail of one but not so well on the other. Perhaps an adult and an immature.

I enjoyed really nice views of two COOPER'S HAWKS this afternoon over the
pond behind Hospicare (South Hill, Town of Ithaca). One hawk was chasing
the other and giving the "kek kek kek" alarm call. I don't often hear
these birds vocalize, so it was quite a thrill!

scritching around in the leaves under a spruce tree. They're in the same
spot as the Fox Sparrow I recently reported.

A friend let me know that two GOLDEN EAGLES soared over her house today
around noon. She's on Nelson Road in the Town of Ithaca. She said they were
quite low; didn't say in which direction they were flying. She said she
wasn't confident of the ID so checked the Lab's website.

A MERLIN just flew quite low over the pond toward bushes where many
chickadees, sparrows, etc. congregate on the north side of the pond.

At about 6 o'clock this evening a single COMMON NIGHTHAWK flew over my yard
here in Brooktondale. It was flying in a southerly direction. I believe that's
new for my yard list!
Also this evening one of the GREEN HERONS and what appears to be a family of
WOOD DUCKS are on the pond
Two GREAT EGRETS just flew in and landed at the edge of the pond behind
Hospicare here on South Hill. What a thrill!!!

For the past few weeks I've been seeing a Mockingbird around the Hospicare
gardens and grounds. When I first saw it, I thought Shrike, perhaps, but it is,
in fact, a Mockingbird. I saw it again today, eating berries from a shrub on
the west side of the pond.

The MOCKINGBIRD that's been hanging around Hospicare but eluded me on the
Christmas Count is back today. Also had a RAVEN croaking and honking (I guess
"cronking", as read in an earlier post, is the perfect word) overhead as I took
my lunchtime walk.
