Hi All,
I just saw a small flock of 5 Northern Shovlers in the little bay
that never freezes on the north end of the lake. They can be seen by
looking SE from the end of Southworth road. I can't remember when I
last saw this species on the lake.

This morning I was visited by two quite special, to me, yard birds. First a
Brown Creeper appeared in a the tree near my feeders. it stayed in the yard for

Norway Spruces next door.
We also had our first male goldfinch in full breeding plumage at a feeder

I keep getting reports of daily visitations of Bald Eagles at Dryden Lake from
non birders living around the lake. it's possible that they are Ospreys

I had three ladies in my yard yesterday am not happy to see what appears to be
increased interest in butterflies. Butterflies and moths were my way into
nature studies although my parents were bird watchers. My interest in birds

Hi all,
I have a mature white throated sparrow , perhaps 2 or 3 almost constantly at
my feeder . Last year an immature one spent the winter with me. Also unusual
for me I have several immature common grackles eating me out of house and home.

There are a few male cardinals in my neighborhood that are calling incessantly
I assume for a mate
for a second nesting. Do they pick a new mate for each nesting or is there

victory 7x42 Binocs. They have recently been discontinued due to poor sales but

Yesterday we had a female merlin on our deer fence in the yard.
Later we saw and heard a pair in the spruces across the street
between Union and East Main. I saw one there on Wednesday

Just had 10 siskins and a pair of purple finches in my feeder.
The siskin flock is quite large and both species have been scarce
in recent years. I bodes well for a special feeder year.
