This morning Ken and I took at walk on the East Trail of Sapsucker Woods.
It was reasonably well protected from the wind, and we saw quite a few
birds. On the back (southwest) side of the trail we heard a cacaphony of
sound - coming from a flock of Rusty Blackbirds! We counted 44 of them,
both on t
On our beginner bird walk this morning we saw 12-20 Rusty blackbirds
associating with Red-winged Blackbirds, most recently seen near the Visitor
Center. Most of the Rusty Blackbirds were already in dark plumage, but the
yellow eyes were striking. Ken and Mark Chao, who we ran into there, were

Our feeders have been inundated this morning by large numbers of red-winged
blackbirds (40+), rusty blackbirds (20+) and two common grackles. The flock
has currently evacuated the premises leaving behind the usual group of house

garden this afternoon just before 4:00pm. A couple of Red-wings in the mix
as well.

On a lunchtime walk, we came across at least a dozen Rusty Blackbirds singing
away in trees along the East trail at the eastern edge of the refuge close to
the southeast corner of the trail. We saw 8 of them, but it sounded like there
were a whole lot more. There were also singing Phoebes in a c
For this morning's bird walk, we had a flock of about a dozen rusty
blackbirds near Sherwood Platform, first foraging low by one of the small
ponds, then gathering in one of the trees. Also there were some
yellow-rumped warblers and ruby-crowned kinglets, and many white-throated
sparrows throughout
Our SFO group spent the morning at Newman golf course walking towards Jetty

We were thrilled to have a flock of 56 Rusty Blackbirds in our yard
in Brooktondale, our first of the season, just in time for our
ProjectFeederWatch count! Today our first Fox Sparrow showed up, but
a day late for the count!

We just had 6 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS checking our feeder area. I think the damned
MOURNING DOVES intimidated them, and also probably had eaten all the seed on
the ground. The blackbirds left after a minute. 2 obvious females, 2
obvious males; the other 2 a cross plumage between the male and female.

Today, I saw 2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS at the bend of Sapsucker Woods Rd, near the
Lab's bird feeding garden -- apparently they were seen yesterday as well. Also
in that area was a flock of at least 50 HOUSE FINCHES (the largest flock I have
seen in several years), and about 10 WAXWINGS -- all Cedars.
Hi All,
At 1 pm today, there was a flock of about 100 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS hanging out in
the woods just past the end of the Podell Boardwalk at Sapsucker Woods. This is
the wooden walk to the south of the visitor's center. They were foraging among
the leaves in the pools of water and also sitting
