There appears to have been a significant movement of sparrows overnight,
judging by the oodles of various sparrows scattering up from the roadsides this
morning. Nelson's Sparrows anyone...?
Good luck searching!

Yesterday we had one white-throated sparrow and then one white-crowned sparrow
foraging under the shrubs and feeders. The white-crowned showed up again today
for a brief time.

Cayugabirds-
Hi all,
Yesterday afternoon after the rain stopped, I took a long walk up Hunt Hill
Rd. and down Hurd Rd. (town of Dryden, east of Ithaca). There were a surprising
number of groups of birds around. The first group, along Hunt Hill Rd.,
consisted of a number of ruby-crowned kinglets, yellow-rum

Richard Tkachuck,
These are sparrows of which I am aware that have been reported here in the

Yesterday I found a small flock of sparrows working the roadside at the
Goetchius Preserve parking areas, in Caroline on Flat Iron Road. With the 11

It had a medium gray head and distinct bib, pinkish-brown sides, and brown

Hello,
Alexa and I had the chance to go see the Clay-colored Sparrow at
Lindsay-Parsons last week. Upon arrival (in the heat of the mid-afternoon),
it was singing away from its reported location. The curious thing was how
we first saw the bird - it was foraging on the mowed grass path next to a

I counted 6 VESPER, 4 SAVANNAH, 3 AMERICAN TREE and 2 FIELD SPARROWS along Sapsucker Woods Road at the second bend from NYS-13. If there were any Chipping Sparrows in that flock, I missed them at noon and at 3:30pm. However I did have CHIPPING SPARROWS and lots of DARK-EYED JUNCOS several places to
There is a very good sparrow flight happening now. Possibly even more
impressive are the northern lights. The sky is pink over Monkey Run right now.

Yesterday we had around 40 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS and 30 JUNCOS in
our yard. They had been sticking around for several days. Yesterday
afternoon I noticed the birds were feeding frenziedly on the seed I put
on the ground for them --- like it was their last meal. This morning we

Hi all,
There is one FIELD SPARROW and one SONG SPARROW under the feeders at the north
side of the Lab of Ornithology this afternoon. Also, lots of REDWINGED

Hello Cayugabirders-
If you've ever wanted to take a closer look at some of the sparrows that
frequent Tompkins County, stop by the Cornell Lab to check out our newest

I was pleased (and puzzled, since it's warmer) to finally get a nice flock
of 12 Tree Sparrows at the feeders today, along with the two remaining
White-throats (remember when they used to be springtime migrants?) The
Tree Sparrows were singing so happily that I could hear them through the
window.
