If you didn't locate the transceivers on those black marks you would
have had terrible performance as that affects collisions. Timing (among
other things like grounding) was very important with that version of
ethernet hardware.

Many, many years ago I acquired a bunch of Terak micros from a storage
locker. It was being leased by my employer and no one had been tracking
what was stored there. One day a beancounter showed up, questioned the

Well, that would depend on the OS in use. There are BBS programs for Unix.
I used one that came from one of the sources newsgroups decades ago and it
worked really well (I never tried on a PDP-11 but there was nothing in it that
would preclude this. I did it on a SYS III Xenix clone). BSD 2.11

No, the buffered Expansion Interface cable is 40 pin to 40 pin
and very short. This is 3 feet long which would be a disaster
for the EI. :-)

So, I just picked up an MISE from Bartlett Labs (cause I really liked
the M3SE I had) and decided to revive one of my TRS-80 MOdel I's.
In my box of "stuff" I found an interesting ribbon cable the function
of which I don't know. It is a 40 pin to 50 pin ribbon cable with a
black box connecting
