as far as I can tell, house of fusion mailing lists still do not
have a Precendence: bulk header in them, informing most
vacation programs not to reply ...

Even if explicitly stated to the contrary,
The only thing I have to say to this is that with all the lists we keep
making for HOF aren't we asking for someone to forget to unsubscribe to one
list. There are 8 lists associated with just CF. If there was a way for
someone to put one email address that they would sign up with any list and
Michael,
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I just don't see why people get so angry
about vacation messages. I think it's an honest mistake, and when you're
subscribed to a dozen lists and looking forward to leaving town I'm sure
it's easy to forget to change your settings.
I'm sure of one thing:
If this was an isolated incident on a single, fringe list I'd agree but in
almost all cases the person is subscribed to either CF-Talk or JRun-Talk
only.
I recognize that there's a need for a new interface and will place one up

Maybe there is a way to give intelligent people (like most of those

Be able to set a simple autoresponder for an email address, easily, whenever
they are not available
Have the lists be able to detect a token in the subject not
I am totally in agreement with this - it really annoys me when you get 20-30
"I'm on holiday" messages within the first hour of a day
If I had more time I would have unsubscribed that guy myself today, but I
think this is MUCH more effective - as long as it's in the notes when people
subscribe,
Like someone's going to follow a standard for auto-responders. ;)
Don't get me wrong, I think the idea has merit but the same people who set
their auto-responders on a list also tend to be the same people who don't
use subject headers.
I'm going to take all messages with certain subjects and have

I'm going to take all messages with certain subjects and have them stored
without being sent to the list. A moderator will then be able to come in and
check if a message is list-worthy or garbage. This allows an auto-sweeper
solution with human intervention to avoid mistakes, the best of both

A comment here:
First of all, I'm in agreement; I really hate getting vacation
Beyond that, I think its a good thing to stay current on lists over
vacation. I know that Outlook also has the option to do some advanced
filteringso I'll try to be more careful in the future.
I'll agree with that. However, then don't set a 'macro / agent / autoresponder /
However, I'm not sure the proposed solution will work. MSOutlook (who I
suspect is the primary 'culprit') has an option to send the OOO notice only
once to each email address.
But each post in cf is posted as the mail sender; BFlynn, Robert Everland,
Gavin Myers. So MS Outlook will reply to
