I'll second X-Mail, although setting it up isn't a matter of cliking
Run|Next|Next|Finish. It does just about everything you could want, but there
is a bit of a learning curve before you can create a base configuration. I
would still recommend it, though. The only thing it doesn't do is IMAP,

You are right on. There are a bunch of bunch of manual configuration steps to
deal with, but in all fairness there are tools that automate most of it. I
would be happy to send you my working baseline configuration files if you want
to try it. Once you get the baseline configuration running,
pushing speed ahead of quality...sacrificing
