Currently, you get way more bangs for your bucks if you choose the
Opteron platform. For desktop usage a Athlon 64 would better fit you.

Intel is the one which suffers from heat problems now, one of the
reasons why manufactures go to 0.09 processes instead of 0.13.
Intel's 9nm chips suffer from heat just as much as the older ones, you
immediately melt down - taking the motherboard and anything close with them.
;^)
As it stands today those problems have been solved however.

Thanks Jim,
I am now considering dual processors - just not sure and want to get
as much feedback as possible before diving into putting the new system
together. I am hoping to order parts Thursday and build this weekend.

I like it - it definitely improves performance response time when using
multiple applications. But really only for those applications tuned to
multi-processor performance
- by the end of next year they've intimated that all their chips will be
multi-core - even their mobile chips.

Another tangent..
If anyone is seriously considering dual-processor systems they should
investigate dual Opteron systems and ones that have decent I/O.Start

and then work your way through these:
long do you wait now for programs to switch/open?
How much is it worth to you to speed that up.;^)

I am replacing my desktop that I use for CF development - as well as
Visual Studio, Adobe products, and the usual MS apps we all love/hate.
I do run CF Server on it for testing but not as an actual server.

CF won't benefit nearly as much as it will from dual CPUs (a dual PIII 1000
