We're using something called Fprot on both servers and workstation, and
also within the CF code to scan user-uploaded documents on the fly.

By virus software I assume you are talking about a virus scanner. By
default such a beast will trigger for any file write by the OS. That
will stop a web
The other thing to note. Which I did look into, but never implemented in any
solutions.
Most server virus protectors, can be run from the command line. Not sure
about workstation versions, never looked into them that deeply.
But the concept was simple, as normally the only files that really
would atleast expect a host to run some sort of virus scan on the
server.
