Bush Administration Ordered To Immediately Stop
Controversial Surveillance Program
Date Posted: Friday, August 18, 2006

WASHINGTON, DC - Aug. 8, 2006 (MASNET and NEWS
SOURCES) Early Thursday, a U.S. District Court Judge for the Eastern District of
Michigan delivered a second major set-back for the Bush Administration in its
strategy for the "war against terror", ruling that its controversial
eavesdropping program is unconstitutional.

Judge Anna Diggs Taylor ordered that
the so-called "Terrorist Surveillance Program" be halted immediately citing that
it is in violation of Americans’ rights to free speech and
privacy.

In her ruling Judge Taylor added
that the program is also in violation of the 1978 Foreign Intelligence
Surveillance Act, which requires the government to obtain a warrant from a
special intelligence court before it can intercept the communications of
Americans.

The Muslim American Society's
Freedom Foundation (MAS Freedom), through Executive Director, Mahdi Bray, noted,
"This is a good day for the rule of law and the constitution. The Bush administration, under the guise
of waging its war against terrorism, has really waged a war against the civil
rights and civil liberties of the American people; particularly the American
Muslim community."

Bray added, "Judge Taylor's ruling
should send a strong signal to the American Muslim community of the importance
of investigating and pursuing constitutional litigation against the many civil
rights and civil liberties abuses that the Bush administration has engaged
in."

ACLU Executive Director, Anthony
Romero, stated, "Government spying on innocent Americans without any kind of
warrant and without Congressional approval runs counter to the very foundations
of our democracy. This is a
landmark victory against the abuse of power that has become the hallmark of the
Bush administration."

"The prohibition against government
eavesdropping on American citizens is well-established and crystal clear," said
ACLU Associate Legal Director Ann Beeson, who is lead counsel in the ACLU v. NSA
lawsuit filed in January, 2006.

"President Bush's claim that he is
not bound by the law is simply astounding. Our democratic system depends on the
rule of law, and not even the president can issue illegal orders that violate
Constitutional principles."

Judge Taylor also rebuked Mr. Bush
in her ruling, writing: "It was never the intent of the Framers [of the
Constitution] to give the President such unfettered control, particularly where
his actions blatantly disregarded the parameters clearly enumerated in the Bill
of Rights.

"There are no hereditary Kings in
America and no powers not created by the
Constitution."

The Justice Department has appealed
the judge’s order.

In October 2005 MAS
Freedom Foundation launched the BFAIR (Better Fair American Immigration
Rules) initiative. The BFAIR project has been developed to help eliminating airport profiling,

[cia-drugs] LaRouche Warnings on Danger of Wider Mideast War Featured on Leading Russian TV Channel

LaRouche Warnings on Danger of Wider Mideast War Featured on Leading
Russian TV Channel
August 17
(EIRNS)—On the evening of August 16, Russia's biggest prime-time TV news show
featured warnings from Lyndon LaRouche, and his magazine, Executive
Intelligence Review, in its 9 PM nightly broadcast. LaRouche, who had been
interviewed that morning by Russia's First Channel (1TV), was shown, and quoted,
along with other experts, including former Russian Prime Minister Yevgeni
Primakov.
Three minutes
into the prime-time broadcast, correspondent Grigori Yemelyanov presented a
segment titled "Experts comment on the outcome of the war in Lebanon." The
segment emphasized that the truce was fragile.
After
quotations on how Israel failed in its objective to wipe out Hezbollah from
Primakov, Knesset member Roman Bronfman, and Lebanon's Minister of Energy
Muhammed Fneish, the broadcast
shifted to the evaluation of EIR. The clip began with displaying
the headline of an article in the Aug. 11 EIR on the danger of an
"October Surprise," and then cut to footage from the interview with
LaRouche.
As LaRouche,
identified as editor-in-chief of EIR, was shown speaking to First
Channel's correspondent, the Russian voiceover continued to excerpt from
Steinberg's article: "If events develop according to that scenario, Iran would
be unlikely to stay out of the conflict. And then it would already be impossible
to stop a big war in the Middle East. Instead of seeking a compromise at the
negotiating table, the American administration is doing everything it can to
provoke a full-scale war."
The fact that
1TV is largely owned by the Russian government, clearly indicates that the
Russian state itself considers LaRouche's warnings to be of crucial importance
in the current strategic situation.
The news
broadcast, in Russian, can be viewed on www.1tv.ru.
For more
information on LaRouche's evaluation of the danger of World War III arising from
the Mideast crisis, and for his solution, please contact EIR at

Who'd You Rather Read, Gary Webb or Judy
Miller?
On occasion of the tenth anniversary of "Dark Alliance," the San Jose
Mercury News series on CIA-contra-crack connections that set off more
major-newspaper handwringing than perhaps anything this side of the
Bush-Iraq-WMD fiasco, Nick Schou of the alternative OC Weekly has an op-ed in the LA Times that's worth reading. Doesn't
matter whether you're still puzzling over why exactly every major paper in the
country saw fit to "debunk" claims Webb had not actually made, or whether you've
never heard of the guy; the point is that Webb (whose reporting, as Eric Umansky noted in this space, was in significant
regards confirmed by the government itself) was guilty of hyperbole, but not of
credulity or subservience. He had the facts, and he made more of them than he
should have. But as Schou points out:
Contrary to the wholly discredited reporting on Iraq's nonexistent
weapons of mass destruction by New York Times reporter Judith Miller, Webb was
the only victim of his mistakes. Nobody else died because of his work, and no
one, either at the CIA or the Mercury News, is known to have lost so much as a
  paycheck.

Webb shot himself in late 2004, his career and personal life having come
unraveled in the wake of "Dark Alliance." We could use the likes of him right
now.

[cia-drugs] Fwd: [ctrl] Truth about ecstacy's unlikely trip

More than two decades after the dance drug ecstasy burst on to the scene, chemists have finally pieced together the true story of the origins of one the most influential and controversial substances ever to come from a test tube.According to popular history the drug, first discovered in 1912, was developed by the German pharmaceutical giant Merck as a lucrative way to suppress the appetites of soldiers in the German army - a plot foiled by reports of bizarre side effects among the first human guinea pigs. Merck, the story goes, was forced to withdraw the compound and consigned it to the pharmaceutical scrap heap, where it lay until resurrected by 1970s drug guru Alexander Shulgin. This version of events appears regularly in medical reports, newspaper articles, textbooks and even on the official website of the US drug enforcement administration. But Merck has decided to set the record straight. In an unusual step, the company got experts from its corporate history department and a local doctor to trawl through thousands of original documents in its archive at its headquarters in Darmstad. For more than a year, they searched for references to ecstasy in laboratory journals, annual reports, patents, letters, interview records, memoirs and the other historical detritus thrown up by six decades of scientific research from 1900 to 1960.Their verdict? The company did develop the drug in 1912, but the appetite suppressant story is an urban myth, passed on from source to source through "uncritical copy-paste procedures". Instead, documents from the time show that ecstasy emerged during the company's efforts to develop a potentially life-saving medicine that would help blood to clot. The best available blood clot medicine at the time, hydrastinin, was patented by Merck's local rival Bayer. Merck chemists believed that a similar compound called methylhydrastinin would be equally effective and set about trying to make it from scratch in a way not covered by the Bayer patent. Ecstasy, also known as MDMA, was first produced during these experiments, but attracted little attention. Merck's recent search found just a passing reference to the drug: in a patent the company filed in 1912 to protect its new blood clot agent, which had been tested on patients in a Berlin hospital. Patent 274350 did not refer to MDMA by name, but described its properties among a list of other new intermediates: "colourless oil, boiling point 155C at 20mm pressure, its salt forms white crystals".Tellingly, there were no references to any experiments to test the biological effects of ecstasy, then known as methylsafrylamin. As the official report of Merck's historical detectives puts it: "In clear contrast to what is usually claimed by the 'ecstasy' literature, MDMA was neither studied in animals nor humans at Merck around 1912."This is not the first time that the appetite suppressant pill story has been exposed as false - Dr Shulgin and others have published more accurate accounts - but Merck hopes its rewriting of history will put the myth to bed. The false story probably started, the company says, because a US laboratory studied a similar compound called MDA as a possible diet drug between 1949 and 1957.No one from Merck's corporate history department would comment, but a spokesman said the company had decided to act because it was regularly asked about its role in ecstasy's development. Its report appears this month in the journal Addiction. What happened next? The Merck archive reveals that the company revived its interest in ecstasy in 1927, when the first tests were carried out on animals. The details have been lost, but it seems that a chemist called Max Oberlin had stumbled on the original patent and thought MDMA might mimic adrenaline because it had a similar structure.Oberlin described the results of his tests as "partly remarkable" but the research was halted because of steep rises in the price of chemicals needed to make the drug. He recommended the company "keep an eye on this field". Further Merck tests in 1952 showed that the compound was toxic to flies. More controversial is the first testing on humans. The US air force is known to have carried out secret tests of MDMA and other drugs in the early 1950s. The experiments are often described as a search for a truth serum, but were carried out on animals, and it is more likely the military was searching for new chemical weapons. The Merck archive suggests one of its scientists may have administered the first human tests in 1959. A Burning Bridge -
A Permanent Goodbye
To the United States
Michael C. Ruppert
From The Wilderness Publications

Sometimes you get your best light from a burning bridge - Don
Henley, My Thanksgiving

CARACAS - It was about a week before I left the United States forever
that I watched Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. tell Charlie Rose something
all of us already know in our hearts. Today, he said, the United
States is hated around the world far worse than it was at the height
of the Vietnam War. I remember the Vietnam War. I will never forget
it.

I opposed that war, and I still remember riots on the UCLA campus in
May,1970 when four students were shot dead by National Guard troops
at Kent State University in Ohio. I was a college student then, and I
was 2S-deferred for the draft. A year later I would be re-classified
1A as the nation shifted to a lottery system. At least someone in my
country was willing to risk his life in the face of injustice. It
gave me hope. That kind of risk-taking was commonplace then, from the
civil rights movement to the anti-war movement, to the American
Indian Movement. American blood was shed regularly on American soil
to resist American tyranny; from Watts, to Detroit, to Selma, to San
Francisco to Memphis to Wounded Knee. It fertilized our lives and
souls as it touched the ground. The willingness to endure physical
suffering, material sacrifice, and jail for the sake of justice was
a singular mark of the American character that earned respect as it
infected the world.

What is the United States infecting the world with today?

Now it seems the American people won't even risk their credit
ratings, student loans, the next piece of ass, or a sideways glance
from people who look at them like AIDS patients for daring to
deviate from the corporate, media-instilled norm. We have come a
long way backward. Rodney King's Can't we all just get along has
become the modern day theme song for the surrender of America's
character, and the L.A. Rebellion of 1992 was probably the last flame
of will to fight injustice in American history.

This new quiescence comes at a time when US crimes are far worse and
more far-reaching than they were in 1970; certainly in the eyes of
the world. In 2001 the US government both facilitated and executed
the attacks of 9/11 against its own people, killing thousands of its
citizens as an excuse to launch a neo-imperial conquest for energy. A
few Americans held small rallies, organized some ineffective groups,
bought a few hundred thousand books and DVDs, listened to a few radio
programs and lectures, and then quietly lined up to have their bags,
emails, credit histories, minds and bodies searched. Critical mass
was never achieved as Executive Orders along with the Patriot and
Homeland Security Acts shredded the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th
Amendments to our Bill of Rights.

In my book Crossing the Rubicon I wrote that events that took place
in the five years following those attacks would determine the course
of human history for centuries to come. We now stand at the brink of
that fateful anniversary.

After the 9-11 attacks the US government lied to create a war for oil
in Iraq telling us that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass
destruction, almost-ready atom bombs, poison gas and deadly germs. We
were told that he helped execute the 9/11 attacks. It was all lies,
and no one has held the US accountable for the hundreds of thousands
of deaths (murders) in Iraq and Afghanistan since then. Few have
tried to hold the government accountable for 2,500 Americans who have
died needlessly, and those who have, have been remarkably
ineffective.

US presidential elections were stolen in 2000 and 2004 through rigged
electronic voting software and intimidation. Not one drop of blood
was spilled anywhere, even as the US Supreme Court rendered an
illegal decision supporting the overthrow of the Constitution and
trampling the rights of individual states.

I never thought I would call the 60s and 70s the good old days. I
would cry tears of joy today to see just one campus overrun by a
modern equivalent of the Students for a Democratic Society. I would
cheer to see a general strike paralyze a city. It would be living
proof that American character had not been submerged, drugged,
weakened, and rendered anemic beyond revival.

My country is dead. Its people have surrendered to tyranny, and in so
doing, they have become tyranny's primary support group; its base
constituency; its chief defender. Every day they offer their
endorsement of tyranny by banking in its banks and spending their
borrowed money

Watada addresses national veterans convention   By Dahr Jamail, truthout.org. August 14, 2006 http://thankyoult.live.radicaldesigns.org/content/view/172/On Saturday night, I was lucky enough to be at the Veterans for Peace National Convention. For that night, Lt. Ehren Watada was able to give the following speech, which I've just received permission to post here. The speech was met with a powerful, standing ovation from the vets who've been there.Lt. Ehren Watada, for those who don't already know, became the first commissioned officer to publicly refuse deployment to the unlawful war and occupation in Iraq. While doing this on June 22, 2006, Watada said, "As the order to take part in an illegal act is ultimately unlawful as well, I must refuse that order."Just as Watada took the stage and began to speak, over 50 members of Iraq Veterans Against the War filed in behind him. Watada, surprised by this and obviously taken aback by the symbolic act, turned back to the audience, took some deep breaths, then gave this speech:     Thank you everyone. Thank you all for your tremendous support. How honored and delighted I am to be in the same room with you tonight. I am deeply humbled by being in the company of such wonderful speakers.    You are all true American patriots. Although long since out of uniform, you continue to fight for the very same principles you once swore to uphold and defend. No one knows the devastation and suffering of war more than veterans - which is why we should always be the first to prevent it.    I wasn't entirely sure what to say tonight. I thought as a leader in general I should speak to motivate. Now I know that this isn't the military and surely there are many out there who outranked me at one point or another - and yes, I'm just a Lieutenant. And yet, I feel as though we are all citizens of this great country and what I have to say is not a matter of authority - but from one citizen to another. We have all seen this war tear apart our country over the past three years. It seems as though nothing we've done, from vigils to protests to letters to Congress, have had any effect in persuading the powers that be. Tonight I will speak to you on my ideas for a change of strategy. I am here tonight because I took a leap of faith. My action is not the first and it certainly will not be the last. Yet, on behalf of those who follow, I require your help - your sacrifice - and that of countless other Americans. I may fail. We may fail. But nothing we have tried has worked so far. It is time for change and the change starts with all of us.    I stand before you today, not as an expert - not as one who pretends to have all the answers. I am simply an American and a servant of the American people. My humble opinions today are just that. I realize that you may not agree with everything I have to say. However, I did not choose to be a leader for popularity. I did it to serve and make better the soldiers of this country. And I swore to carry out this charge honorably under the rule of law.    Today, I speak with you about a radical idea. It is one born from the very concept of the American soldier (or service member). It became instrumental in ending the Vietnam War - but it has been long since forgotten. The idea is this: that to stop an illegal and unjust war, the soldiers can choose to stop fighting it.    Now it is not an easy task for the soldier. For he or she must be aware that they are being used for ill-gain. They must hold themselves responsible for individual action. They must remember duty to the Constitution and the people supersedes the ideologies of their leadership. The soldier must be willing to face ostracism by their peers, worry over the survival of their families, and of course the loss of personal freedom. They must know that resisting an authoritarian government at home is equally important to fighting a foreign aggressor on the battlefield. Finally, those wearing the uniform must know beyond any shadow of a doubt that by refusing immoral and illegal orders they will be supported by the people not with mere words but by action.    The American soldier must rise above the socialization that tells them authority should always be obeyed without question. Rank should be respected but never blindly followed. Awareness of the history of atrocities and destruction committed in the name of America - either through direct military intervention or by proxy war - is crucial. They must realize that this is a war not out of self-defense but by choice, for profit and imperialistic domination. WMD, ties to Al Qaeda, and ties to 9/11 never existed and never will. The soldier must know that our narrowly and

The burglary followed on the heels of my humiliation of the perpetrator of a
feeble and stupidly executed sexual blackmail plot that began when a
newly-hired staff writer (with a clean record and a Master's degree in
English) began a torrid (and not very discrete) sexual affair with my
long-term IT manager. The IT manager was, at the time, involved in a
committed relationship with a woman in Los Angeles. The same female employee
also made simultaneous direct sexual advances to my Operations Manager who
is married. These included her showing naked photographs of herself to both
men in our offices, something which they kept from me until later.

Eventually the sexual intrigue resulted in an altercation between the three
which wound up on my doorstep late on a Sunday night in April. It seems no
one involved in the altercation was capable of telling the whole truth. It
was also clear that my IT manager - who was known for his appetites - had
fallen hopelessly in the grasp of an attractive sexual smorgasbord that was
fulfilling his every wish. This is what he said to people in phone
conversations who later told me about them. He reportedly described her as a
sexual demon. He lied to his girlfriend. He lied to me when he told me
that he had ended the relationship. Then he lied to his friend, the
Operations Manager, about it. I could no longer trust him, and this was of
enormous concern to me.

After all of the previous attempts to sink FTW over the years I was
well-prepared when the same woman started making advances to me. How dumb
did they think I was? I concealed a tape recorder in my office as she
directed me, after regular office hours, to pornographic web sites and
continually tried to tempt me with scanty outfits, G-strings and hints of
sexual delights including descriptions of her private parts. She was doing
all this at a time when she made 103 cell phone calls in one month to my IT
Manager on a cell phone that FTW was paying for. I got the bills. Most of
the calls were made during business hours. The second month's bill was just
as bad when it arrived after she had been fired.

My IT Manager had been my most trusted employee and a close friend. I may
never be able to forgive his betrayal even if the Siren's song had
overwhelmed him. In previous years FTW computers had been sabotaged, our web
site had been hacked, and several attempts had been made to financially
sabotage our operations. Being fully aware that he was likely revealing our
most sensitive proprietary information, including account access codes, I
had but two choices.

I could fire the young woman. But if I did so she would be angry outside the
company and still have the IT Manager as helpless as Ulysses' crew in her
vindictive grasp. Or, I could keep her close, play along with her games,
prepare myself against the blackmail I knew would come, and try to find out
what kind of damage she was intent on doing and head it off. When she could
not compromise me sexually, she turned the IT Manager against me, and he
gave sudden notice. That was damaging enough. His last day of work was to be
June 1st. I decided immediately that that would be her last day of work too,
and so it was.

As June 1 approached I baited her with actions I knew would force her to
show her hand. She did on May 29th and that's when I let it be known how I
had protected myself. She immediately went - no doubt with the guidance of
our IT Manager - to a ridiculous pseudo-journalist who has been hounding FTW
and other 9-11 activists for years. In a previous sabotage attempt in 2005
this same pseudo-journalist had been directly connected to the FBI by a tape
recording.

Her allegations of sexual harassment against me fell flat on their faces,
and she was publicly humiliated. She had also been showing highly erratic
emotional behavior consistent with drug use in her last two weeks of work.
On the day she was terminated she and the IT manager frantically rushed to
erase large quantities of data from her office computer. This was witnessed
by the entire office staff. Fortunately for us, the erasures were only made
with one-pass deletions, and most of what they were trying to hide remains
recoverable.

...

Also, about a week after the burglary, my Operations Manager, who we have
since discovered was apparently in the process of destroying our paper
financial records, disclosed that the fired female employee was a multi-year
close friend of a convicted methamphetamine manufacturer and dealer who had
served five years in prison. That was the last straw, and it

I think stripping to your shorts in front of a female employee and

myself, is exactly what Mike Ruppert is.

http://www.fromthewilderness.com/free/ww3/081606_burning_bridge.shtml
The burglary followed on the heels of my humiliation of the
perpetrator of a
feeble and stupidly executed sexual blackmail plot that began when
a
newly-hired staff writer (with a clean record and a Master's degree
in
English) began a torrid (and not very discrete) sexual affair with
my
long-term IT manager. The IT manager was, at the time, involved in
a
committed relationship with a woman in Los Angeles. The same female
employee
also made simultaneous direct sexual advances to my Operations
Manager who
is married. These included her showing naked photographs of herself
to both
men in our offices, something which they kept from me until later.

Eventually the sexual intrigue resulted in an altercation between
the three
which wound up on my doorstep late on a Sunday night in April. It
seems no
one involved in the altercation was capable of telling the whole
truth. It
was also clear that my IT manager - who was known for his
appetites - had
fallen hopelessly in the grasp of an attractive sexual smorgasbord
that was
fulfilling his every wish. This is what he said to people in phone
conversations who later told me about them. He reportedly described
her as a
sexual demon. He lied to his girlfriend. He lied to me when he
told me
that he had ended the relationship. Then he lied to his friend, the
Operations Manager, about it. I could no longer trust him, and this
was of
 enormous concern to me.

After all of the previous attempts to sink FTW over the years I was
well-prepared when the same woman started making advances to me.
How dumb
did they think I was? I concealed a tape recorder in my office as
she
directed me, after regular office hours, to pornographic web sites
and
continually tried to tempt me with scanty outfits, G-strings and
hints of
sexual delights including descriptions of her private parts. She
was doing
all this at a time when she made 103 cell phone calls in one month
to my IT
Manager on a cell phone that FTW was paying for. I got the bills.
Most of
the calls were made during business hours. The second month's bill
was just
as bad when it arrived after she had been fired.

My IT Manager had been my most trusted employee and a close friend.
I may
never be able to forgive his betrayal even if the Siren's song had
overwhelmed him. In previous years FTW computers had been
sabotaged, our web
site had been hacked, and several attempts had been made to
financially
sabotage our operations. Being fully aware that he was likely
revealing our
most sensitive proprietary information, including account access
codes, I
 had but two choices.

I could fire the young woman. But if I did so she would be angry
outside the
company and still have the IT Manager as helpless as Ulysses' crew
in her
vindictive grasp. Or, I could keep her close, play along with her
games,
prepare myself against the blackmail I knew would come, and try to
find out
what kind of damage she was intent on doing and head it off. When
she could
not compromise me sexually, she turned the IT Manager against me,
and he
gave sudden notice. That was damaging enough. His last day of work
was to be
June 1st. I decided immediately that that would be her last day of
work too,
 and so it was.

As June 1 approached I baited her with actions I knew would force
her to
show her hand. She did on May 29th and that's when I let it be
known how I
had protected myself. She immediately went - no doubt with the
guidance of
our IT Manager - to a ridiculous pseudo-journalist who has been
hounding FTW
and other 9-11 activists for years. In a previous sabotage attempt
in 2005
this same pseudo-journalist had been directly connected to the FBI
by a tape
 recording.

Her allegations of sexual harassment against me fell flat on their
faces,
and she was publicly humiliated. She had also been showing highly
erratic
emotional behavior consistent with drug use in her last two weeks
of work.
On the day she was terminated she and the IT manager frantically
rushed to
erase large quantities of data from her office computer. This was

[cia-drugs] A Neocolonialist Speaks Out

2006-08-18 Thread norgesen

A
Neocolonialist Speaks Out
Reading Ralph McGehee’s Deadly
Deceits helped me figure out the American foreign policy game, similar to Smedley Butler’s
confession. McGehee and Butler had to live with their consciences and
could not keep silent in their retirement years. I had heard about
servants for the Rothschilds and Rockefellers writing memoirs about what really
happens on the inside, only to have the books suppressed, including buying out
the publishing companies that tried publishing the books. I have not heard
of anybody publishing anything from deep inside the beast, but in 2004, a member
of “middle management” of the global corporate empire spoke out, and John
Perkins’ Confessions of an Economic Hit Man is the War is a Racket of
our time.
McGehee was an imperial foot soldier, not beginning
to figure out the game until he came up with the “wrong answer” in
America’s war against communism. Perkins was on the “privatized” side of
the empire, in what can be called middle management, and was frankly told about
the nature of his job early on. His cronies literally called themselves
“economic hit men,” or EHM for short.[11] He was taught the game from the
inside. All the World Bank, IMF and USAID “assistance” was not designed to
help the nations receiving the loans, but was designed to enslave those nations
to the neocolonial order (or “corporatocracy” as Perkins called it), to give
American corporate interests access to rape and plunder those nations,
particularly to steal their natural resources and exploit their labor. The
elites of those subject nations would be bribed to would play along, but the
primary goal was exploiting the peoples and resources of the subject
nations.
Perkins’ meteoric career took him to many neocolonial
hot spots, such as Iran, Colombia, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Panama and
Ecuador. Perkins became friends with the populist
leaders of Panama and Ecuador, Omar Torrijos and Jaime Roldós, who both refused
to kneel to the empire and tried helping their nation’s poor instead. He
worried that the CIA and friends would assassinate them, and as soon as Ronald
Reagan became president, Torrijos and Roldós died in “accidents” in 1981, where
their aircrafts exploded in mid-air, in what were obviously CIA-style
assassinations. Those assassinations served notice to the world that the
relatively gentle days of Carter’s reign were over. Those national leaders
were killed by what Perkins called the “jackals.” When bribes of IMF,
World Bank, USAID and illicit funds are not sufficient, then it becomes time to
set the jackals loose. If the jackals fail, the U.S. military is sent in,
as with Iraq.
As with Perkins, the jackals rarely
worked directly for the U.S. government, but were “privatized” covert action
operatives.[12] Perkins was taught that privatizing
covert action had been a trend ever since Kermit Roosevelt, the grandson of
president Teddy, overthrew the Iranian
government while working for the CIA on behalf of Western oil companies in
1953.[13] Being on the government payroll was
problematic, as the Iran-Contra scandal showed. Privatized covert action
operatives were much harder to expose and easier to deny, and their activities
did not leave the paper trail that government operatives could leave.
Privatized covert action was much tidier and could be more effective.
Perkins likened the jackals to mafia enforcers, but the jackals serve global
corporate empires, not local gangster turf.[14] I have a relative who was a
privatized jackal who worked for a household name “diplomat.” His secret
career destroyed his life, and I will not be able to publish his tale for a long
time, for jackal-related reasons.
Perkins’ first job was working for the Peace Corps in
the Amazon, to see if he was fit for the rigors of EHM life in Third World
countries (although he signed up for idealistic motives, as with most Peace
Corps volunteers). The Peace Corps is also a tool of the empire, and
even some missionary groups are imperial tools, trying persuasion before the
jackals are sent in.[15]
As with McGehee, those working for Perkins were not
explicitly told about the true nature of their work, and it was the rare person
who even wanted to know. Perkins kept his underlings in the dark
about what they truly worked for, and often felt jealous of their naïveté.[16]
Perkins’ path and mine crossed over the Seabrook
nuclear power plant, as I tried to help make it
obsolete while he promoted it, knowing that nuclear power was anything but
safe and cheap.[17] Perkins’ self-loathing over his
life’s path led him to publish his book, even though he was bribed handsomely to
never publish his memoirs as an EHM.[18] He even got to start an alternative
energy company that was bought out by an oil company for top dollar.
Perkins always avoided the hero\martyr path, so never allowed the game to reach
the stage of being made
an offer he could not
