I sheet to the rail and still backwind the main. You must either backwind the
main a lot, or have a very flat cut.I find the extra speed is worth giving up a
little point.RonWild CheriC 30-1STL

I also kicked / bent / broke the key in the ignition. I took the barrel
apart and pushed the broken piece out then took the pieces to a local old
school locksmith shop. They found a key that matched it gave it to me free
of charge, (A golf cart key I believe) and that was that.
Agreed, I experienced it 1st hand a few months after I had bought the boat
a few years back.. I had a brain fart and turned the key to "off" while
the engine was running. The diodes instantly fried, the alternator was
toast / the charging warning was light on.
Then came the alternator saga:
One item which seems not to be mentioned in this thread is how you have your
genoas rigged. Do you have inboard genoa tracks, because the 30 won’t point if
you are still running the sheets to blocks on the rail. We have inboard tracks
and seem to point well.

If my memory is correct Mike, it is a bad idea to turn off the 'power'
while the engine is running.might damage the diodes in the
alternator. I stand to be corrected?

I noticed Touche's stuffing box was dripping when the engine wasn't
running. Mentioned I needed to tighten it to the Admiral. She immediately
suggested I open the companionway stairs and set up our two clip on Caframo
fans to blow cool air from the air conditioned cabin into the engine
Didn’t I read somewhere on this group that it was a bad idea to turn off the
key switch while the engine is running? Can someone confirm/deny this?

I replaced the key with a pull switch. All Yanmar keys are the same and the
cylinders are expensive so I eliminated the problem. If I happen to kick the
switch in while the engine is running, it will continue, but the tach will stop
working. Big deal.

Hey John
Try At-Tec hydraulics on Plank road in Sarnia, and there are some more
hydraulic shops around. Every o-ring imaginable is available locally and I
can't imagine it would be more than $10 or$15 for the parts to rebuild it plus
an hour or so of their time.
