Sorry Rick, the Matrix GX2100 does have an AIS Rx built in. I've had one for a number of years and it works great with the SH chart plotter. It does need to be connected to a GPS for the AIS to work, maybe that's what you were thinking of.

The 2100 does not have an AIS receiver. It has the capability to have an AIS receiver interfaced with it. The 2150 is the SH radio with the built in AIS receiver. If anyone has a West Marine Pro account, or a friend who does that would make the purchase for you, the SH2150 is on sale this week

With all due respect, weld the tank.you can add additional plastic layers and add a layer of stainless steel mesh.  Like other welding, you'll get the same or better strength as the original, especially if you add the mesh. Just my  $.02 worth, but it's based on my experience of 4 months ago.

Last one I got I bought off eBay. There are no commercial sources for the Nexus Classic multicontrols. The 43 mm transducers are readily available. Garmin sells some upgrades (GNX 20) but you need to really check compatibility.
