Two points to make. Winch drum surface does wear out as in gets smooth and looses it's grip on the line causing the line to slip. Second, winch size for racing a 34. I campaigned a 34 for 12 yrs. Put Lewmar 44s on when I 1st got the boat. Also make sure you have good handles and big enough

Just an aside on the true coal tar epoxy, like what rustolem co sells. My 82' C 34 had a cast iron centerboard. wire wheeled the board, painted 2 coats of coal tar and after 12 yrs of owning the boat there was no sign of rust bleeding thru. Awesome stuff for protecting steel in salt water ! Jim

I had very good luck with a Nordac main from North on my 34. After 8 years still had lots of life left in it and held shape. Perhaps the cloth is different now? Speaking of sails I still have 2 really nice jibs from my 1982 C 34. Went on a harken roller. made for the boat by North Sails 135%
