I’m going to insert a comment here on keeping perspective with PHRF ratings. I
recently had a conversation with an individual affiliated with our local
ratings and he commented that 3 secs equates to approximately 1 boat length for
every mile raced. So as nice as it is to get 3 or 6 secs,
CC 30 168 185 174
CC 30 (1-506) 171 174 171
CC 30 SD 172 184 177
I have a 1981 CC 30MK 1
Not sure the difference of the described above, Well I do know that the
last one is the Sheol draft version. but not sure the (1-501) is that the
HIN # mine is 675?
I may ease into the local Frost-bite

I have always wondered about that as well. The 1-506 version is what we
have - the earliest ones had the boom a foot lower than ours, but they
modified that after the first ones were built - too many headaches. I
don't know why the listings cut off at 506
.
And, I don't know the last one built - yours is the highest number I've seen.

Sounds like your trophy winners will be determined by the math you use.OK if
everyone understands and accepts that.Spinnaker boats and non spinnaker
boats in the same race is about as bad as racing gets IMHO.might as well all

Agreed Dwight. I can't envision a way that this would turn out well. Seems
like you need two fleets or a course that has little or no downwind legs.
You could also just say no handicap for non-spin or just not allow any
spinnakers. I'm

FWIW West Florida PHRF uses a 26 sec non-spin offset (in our light air
downwind work can be slw for a non-spinn boat). Though the classes
rarely race against each other and the only impact tends to be in small
races or some regattas looking to score some sort of overall. Since this

PHRF-LO (Lake Ontario) has done a study of Flying and Non flying ratings and
the spread between the two is adjusted for each type of boat.
PHRF-LO has made a lot of changes to try to make the completion fair ... for

It's interesting to contemplate the notion of fairness in a competition replete
with random inequalities and more inconsistencies than constants. Cruising
sounds a lot more rewarding and less stressful than handicap racing these days.
At least for an old duffer:)
