What kind of racing?
While I have retired from racing, I clearly remember racing with a sail
inventory4 head sails (150% light and heavy air...#1, 135%...#2, and

I have a hypothetical for the racers among you.
I need to replace my 3DL headsail--its mostly patches after ~ 5 years of club
racing locally. This is about my 3rd laminate style headsail---and my last!
I am probably going with the North 3D Nordac which has replaced the former

I am getting a new set of cruising sails for our 40. My choice is going to be
between Doyle or Quantum. I have had Doyle sail before and their service and
quality were great. Made in St.Pete Fl. right up the road. 100 miles. Quantum
sails with almost identical specs
OK--my 5 yr old 3Di North 155 head sail is almost dead--especially after a tear
along the foot during a race on Halloween.
I think I want to go with a non-laminate sail (their life locally seems to be
around 5 years in my use of them) and since I mostly club-race and maybe CRW, I
am not going

I had very good luck with a Nordac main from North on my 34. After 8 years
still had lots of life left in
it and held shape. Perhaps the cloth is different now?
Speaking of sails I still have 2 really nice jibs from my 1982 C 34. Went

UK is building a 140% Genoa of 7.3 oz high modulus dacron with a foam luff, UV
sun shield, sail numbers and tell tail windows. The main is 8.3 oz high

I purchased new Dacron cruising sails (main and 135% genoa) for our 34 last
spring for the 2019 season. After getting quotes and discussing it with
several suppliers including North Sails and Precision I decided to go with
Doyle Sails in Salem MA. Chris Howes at Doyle worked with me
I googled the address that my precision sail came from and the top result was

We always had North Sails on Zoomer and the Jib’s were 3DL on the #1 but the 2
and 3 were Dacron then Kevlar reinforced. Main was Dacron but radial cut, not
cross cut. They lasted at least 7 years with regular buoy racing.

No matter who or what you decide on, give the service and support of a
local loft considerable preference. IMO there is nothing like getting
immediate service, personal and professional measurements, test sails,

I’m a cruiser, not a racer, so Dacron would be fine for my needs. As would
partial battens on the main I believe.
A couple of questions for the community:
1.
I've been very pleased with the sails I got from Chesapeake Sailmakers (Chuck
O'Malley) in Annapolis. Super service, and the roller furling 145 sails very
well when furled to 110 as conditions dictate. On the Landfall 38, sailing jib
only is a good option in heavy weather. The sails have held

for Alera. The PO installed a Schaefer In Boom furler but went cheap
on the mylar
