Stus-List Strange HIN, can anyone clarify

A friend is looking at a 1974 30-1 in Beaufort, NC. The seller gave us a copy of a recent survey of the boat. On the survey the hull number is listed as 300116 which is probably taken from the metal plate in the cockpit. Model 30. Hull #116. Makes sense. But the HIN shown for the boat is

All boats manufactured after 1972 have the HIN on the upper starboard of the transom. Accept no substitutes! If the HIN is not there, I would slow down and investigate before going any further. As far as I know, CC always had the HIN located in other spots as backup. Mine has it embossed on

That may be a state issued HIN. Touché has a state issued HIN because the 1971 HIN format didn't match the USCG standard. The state HIN number does not have CCZ or CCY. It has some random code but matches the USCG format. I'm thinking the 300116 is correct and the CC code is just omitted.

Dwight, Since the start is in the upper part of the Chesapeake Bay, our options for the start are somewhat limited by the shallow water. There are still a lot of tactics to apply to avoid foul currents and maximize boatspeed. Jake Jake Brodersen Midnight Mistress CC 35 Mk-III
