Stus-List Strange HIN, can anyone clarify

2014-05-30 Thread Rick Brass via CnC-List
A friend is looking at a 1974 30-1 in Beaufort, NC. The seller gave us a copy
of a recent survey of the boat.

On the survey the hull number is listed as 300116 which is probably taken
from the metal plate in the cockpit. Model 30. Hull #116. Makes sense.

But the HIN shown for the boat is MDZ45139G473, which seems all wrong. For one
thing, the date would make this a 73 model not a 74. And MDZ is the
manufacturer code for a home made boat built in Maryland.

Can anyone help me clarify what appears to be an error or typo in the survey?
Does anyone her have a HIN like this.?

2014-05-30 Thread Hoyt, Mike via CnC-List
CC in that era often made the hull in one year and completed the boat the
next. This is not the only CC that is a 74 model but hull was 73. Dry Red
CC 25 #148 was same thing

Re: Stus-List Strange HIN, can anyone clarify

2014-05-30 Thread Bill Bina - gmail via CnC-List
All boats manufactured after 1972 have the HIN on the upper starboard of
the transom. Accept no substitutes! If the HIN is not there, I would
slow down and investigate before going any further. As far as I know,
CC always had the HIN located in other spots as backup. Mine has it
embossed on the interior liner on the surface that is exposed when I
lift up the seat of the port settee. For all I know there are others I
have not stumbled upon. Maybe the surveyor mixed up some of his notes
when he got back to the office to write his final reports. I'm not sure
I would rely on a seller supplied survey, either. I think I may be
hearing the faint sound of a warning bell or two, here. The buyer will
need a new survey with correct numbers to get insurance and/or financing
anyway.

Re: Stus-List Strange HIN, can anyone clarify

2014-05-30 Thread Dennis C. via CnC-List
That may be a state issued HIN. Touché has a state issued HIN because the 1971
HIN format didn't match the USCG standard. The state HIN number does not have
CCZ or CCY. It has some random code but matches the USCG format.

I'm thinking the 300116 is correct and the CC code is just omitted.

Stus-List Annapolis Bermuda Race

2014-05-30 Thread Joel Aronson via CnC-List
All,

One week to the gun! I want to thank all of you in advance for your
support, advice, patience, equipment and even sails that have made it
possible for me to enter the race.

There will be fellow CC ers on the boat both ways!

Our class includes Steve Sharkey's CC 37 as well as a mini transat 21
footer and a 100 foot schooner. Should make the starting line interesting.
You can track us at www.bermudaoceanrace.com. They are using Spots, not
Yellowbrick.

Finally, as a follow up to an earlier post, I ran out of time to make a
fancy enclosure for the frig compressor. Some corrugated plastic board
from Home Depot and duct tape will suffice for now. If nothing else, it
will serve as a template for a more permanent solution.

Yes, everyone who knows anything about sailboat racing would make that
recommendation to anyone but it is much easier to make the recommendation
than to put the recommendation into practice.sort of like saying just stay
in front all the way but it's winning the start and staying in front that's
hard to do sometimes.I do agree with the general statement that says you
can't win by following so if you are not fortunate enough to win the strat
and get to the first shift first and regocnize that there is indeed a real
shift and how to use that shift to your advantage then you might be forced
to try something different or else be satisfied to follow and consequently
place second or lower.soemtimes it hard to make that bold decision to tack
away and look for better fortune

Dwight,

Since the start is in the upper part of the Chesapeake Bay, our options for
the start are somewhat limited by the shallow water. There are still a lot
of tactics to apply to avoid foul currents and maximize boatspeed.
