Re: Stus-List Navtec Tensioner

2017-01-13 Thread ALAN BERGEN via CnC-List
I use Lew Townsend in Seattle for all my hydraulic work. He's an
authorized Navtec repair facility. Fast turn-around, reasonably priced.
Reach him at (206) 498-7282

Continuing in my saga to figure out why the tensioner does not hold, I have
unscrewed every screw and bolt and guage. Nothing looks worn but I know
that something being old and brittle could be the issue.

It seems to me the tensioner drum itself has to come apart so you can get
at the seals or o-ring at the bottom of the piston. I cannot see how to
open this. Does anyone know how this comes apart?

I have the Navtec 10 - 7 which is the square sided drum

Thanks

Stus-List Roller furling choices advice?

2017-01-13 Thread Michael Jones via CnC-List
Ls and Gs

I'm sure there is loads of experience on roller furlers out there...can you
share some of it? I have a 1981 C 34 with a track on the forestay.

I am considering replacing this with a roller furler I'd like to be able
to install myself, and I'd like to keep the existing forestay as it's rod
and I'd rather not have to disturb it by shortening it as some of the
systems require. I'd also like not to have to change it to wire (at least
one furler manufacturer claims their system is not compatible with rod
rigging).

Profurl seems a possibility, Harken would need to shorten the stay.

Any comments would be appreciated!

Best regards

Re: Stus-List Navtec back stay tensioner

I have a NavTec tensioner as well, don't remember the specific model. Mine
was doing the same thing and supposedly you need special tools to fix them.
So a repair shop is the only option. Unfortunately they are expensive.

There is a new generation of satellites coming on line shortly so don't
invest a lot now. Be sure you get the propriety cable and software if you
get Globalstar.

I understand there is no Windows 10 driver for the Go

It often took 5 to 15 minutes to get service going to Bermuda. The one time
I really wanted to make a call in a gale I could not get any service.
Clouds were too thick. Don't know if anyone else would have been better.

I've never gotten GRIBS over the phone. Best to have someone who is on land
and can serve as a personal weather router. After10 minutes I give up.
